Gidday and welcome selig - There was another Japan based member on this site a few years ago but I can't recall his name.
I have visited Japan quite a few times and seen a few D3s in different places. Whilst I saw none in Kyoto I have seen them in Tokyo, Nagasaki and Takayama of all places! (photo eludes me at the moment; but no proof without a picture as they say). I think Japanese roads are well suited to the D3 (especially with its great turning circle) but parking space will always be a problem near residential areas no doubt.
I have some photos of one trip I did in 2006 in my gallery. LeighW

Hi, interesting little set of pics
I see a lot more Range Rovers over here than Discoverys for some reason, maybe it's a Kansai thing..
If you're ever over again, give us a shout!

Greetings. I too live in Japan for now. My LR3 is in the states for safe keeping until I get back. I live near Yokohama... "Every government interference in the economy consists of giving an unearned benefit, extorted by force, to some men at the expense of others."

selig you have a PM.
Since LR3Trav has replied to your original post my message is in part redundant.
Here is the photo of a D3 in Takayama (taken in June 2009, not too far from sake distilleries area).
