thanks; am considering a carefully worded letter to LR regarding lack of functionality.

Been there and done that many moons ago. Whilst I was initially encouraged by LR's response. it eventually came to nothing.

The Pre-heater works to a fashion, with the radio left on, but I think the only way to get a proper timed pre-heater that will work safely and reliably on a current car will be to fit the Webasto accesory kit as per Brian.

I think I will spend my money on an extra set of thermal underwear for the cold mornings to come.

Sorry to be so negative, but the pre-heater is an almighty corporate cock up. It is genuinely not supposed to be there, and I bet someone in production management got there ass kicked big time.

to be honest - and yes I know you'll shout at me - the car warms up very fast when the preheater kicks in on cold mornings...

If you listen to the anti's we won't be needing pre-heaters with all the global warming we are causing.

I'm still waiting for it to be cold enough to see if the one on my 'S' works. Won't be long off from now I'm sure.

Works on my 'S', or it did last time it was cold enough, and did the radio frig .. had a few s/w upgrades since(I think) , so its a wait and see for >7 degrees ..
..............Somewhere in-between my old D3 and what's to come next .........
