Im not sure that they would so comments would be welcome.Any other advice would be gratefully received as well,

For me side strips are a 100% definate as they protect the doors in the dreaded car parks etc.
Only other advice would be don't order loads of accessories for dealer fit unless they do it FOC, the forum has negotiated a hefty discount on extras and most are a quick and easy DIY fit.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Welcome hughesajc!!! Side strips help break up the "slab sided" look. Another good options on silver is loads of mud as D3Matt is showing!
PS If getting the dealer to fit the accessories they have a 3 yr warranty as long as they are fitted within 30 days of registration. Yeovil LR do good discounts (ask for nick) so if a lot of goodies you could have a day trip down there & drink their coffee!

Very True - Thanks !! Like those side steps too.should be useful for the young family !
Yes, for looks I think the D3 looks better with the strips on. They do help protect the sides from other car doors, but if you're getting side steps then these do the job much better. Just raise the suspension up when parking and car doors hit the steps rather than the side panels.Matt

DSL, I see you've changed the picture now. Don't the wheels look small when it is in extended mode?
hughesajc, Plenty of pics of a silver with side strips in my gallery.Matt

Hi...
Reference the side strips....the LR Design ethos was always to allow Disco 3 to be a 'canvas' which could be specced up in various ways. For many people the minimal design works without side strips - look at the Audi TT/Lexus 'IS'/BMW 5 series etc etc which gives a more contemporary look when specced with 19" wheels. BUT for a more rugged LR look the side strips are available to complement the lamp guards/protection bars etc.
The LR recommended height of these strips is based on the height where the majority of door damage occurs...
My advice? Get the proper side steps (as they work for children/shorter people) and leave the Disco in Off Road mode when parked...careless doors will only hit the side steps.

Mine with strips and no steps (for comparison), I don't have side steps as they get bent when off-roading!

As an alternative view....
Be aware that side steps can limit the extent of your off road capability ...
...and there is a setting called 'Access mode' on the suspension that allows even the shortest dwarf adequate access to the cabin from ground level......
....and you will get your trousers dirty on the sidesteps when you forget they are there.
Side strips are a must though 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I completely agree. In raised-suspension mode with sidesteps fitted, your door panels are completely safe from other car doors (& trolleys too) when parked in tight supermarket car park spaces. Strips AND steps is a bit of overkill. IMHO, sidesteps are essential for not just kids' access, but roof access too (i.e. reaching roof-box, car cleaning etc). Without them, you need to get step ladders out every time.
The only other thing i didn't get when new (but have since fitted & would highly recommend) is front & rear mud-guards. Without them, the sides of the car get FILTHY - & that's just from on-road driving at this time of the year.DGRR

Side steps
I'm thinking of investing in a pair of side steps purchasing of course from Yeovil. Are they easy to fit as I am considering on fitting them myself. Can anyone of you tell me what is involved?D3 Buckingham Blue SE Auto

Do a search. There are plenty of threads on fitting side steps and some detailed instructions somewhere too.
They are easy to fit. I did mine. The instructions on here do help a lot.Matt
