The wheels were stolen because they were attached to the D3 when it was stolen (family member left a bedroom window open at night, in went the thieves, who found the key and drove off). It is certainly nothing to do with the LR security, but everything to do with the criminal mind. Back to the thread topic...
The May 2010 edition (available now) of 4X4 Australia has a comparison of the 2.7l against the Prado and Pajero. It chooses this version specifically because of the afforability of this model. Seems to be fine in their books.
Having a D4 3.0 SE myself, and having just finished the run-in period (800km) then I must say the 3.0 accelerates way faster than 2.8 tonnes has a right to.  and I probably would have been totally happy with the 2.7. Suzuki Vitara 3dr

I have a 2.7SE now and test drove the 3.0SE on the weekend. I couldn't believe the difference. Not just in the response from a standing start but also while cruising and wanting to change lanes/overtake etc. the brakes were also way more responsive as well
My 2.7 is coming off lease now hence the upgrade and I'm wondering if the difference in cost now will be represented when I sell it in 3 years time.
Looking at the second hand value now of petrol vs diesel SE, I'm really happy I got the diesel at the time but as both these motors are diesel I'm not so sure that the distinction will be as simple.
