Disco 4 3.0 sdv6 crankshaft sprocket
I’ve just removed the sprocket off my crankshaft, and can see 2 grooves in the sprocket bores but no locating pin in the crankshaft, can this be right? How can you correctly position the sprocket in relation to the pistons? Some help would be gratefully appreciated.

You need the timing pins I believe. One in the flywheel (starter removed) and one in each cam sprocket.

Well I’ve never done a timing belt personally, but I think so long as the pins are in, then fit the sprocket and belt. The engine will be timed as the pins will have set the crank and the cams to the correct position. The sprocket just needs to be bloody tight!

Sprocket does not have any locating pins or half moon key.
It is just tightened up when the cambelt is in position and timed up with the cams and crank flywheel.
Just remember to remove the camshaft timing pins when tightening crank pulley.

Many thanks Defector. Seems like a design oversight, but haho. I will do as you have said
Did you not lock the crank to get it off ?.. why did you take it off, Oil Pump change?, no need to ,to do the belts if thats all you have done. Make sure its tightened to the correct amount or it will slip. 100nm then another 90 degrees.
