Disco 4 Buying advice/Adaptive Cruise Control quandary

Currently based in the US and looking to change my great LR3 for a LR4 only because my V8 is 14 YO and I want to get an LR4 whilst there are still some out there at low mileage so I can keep it for a long time.

Due to odd LR spec in the US, the LR4 does not have the low ratio box fitted as standard. I want this, so that limits the population very considerably. I also want an HSE Lux, of which there are even fewer. I also THINK I want Adaptive Cruise Control, because we do quite a lot of long journeys.

My question:

1. Is ACC worth it? (My friend who has a FFRR loves it).

2. Can it be retro fitted relatively easily if I can't find a car with it as a build option.

Trying to find a low miles 2016 HSE Lux with low ratio AND ACC is proving to be extremely difficult.

I'd be very grateful for any thoughts/advice.

Thumbs Up

I wonder if no replies could mean that ACC was not a UK option at all? Could that be the case?

I had a 2016 D4 HSE Lux from new. There was no ACC option. Cruise control which you could manually alter the speed setting via the steering wheel, yes but that was it.

Rear aircon deleted too when the UK models took on Adblu for emissions regulations. Do you guys have that in the US?

Never heard of anyone retro fitting ACC but no doubt there will be someone along in a minute...

Think this is just one of the bits being sold

Also think the D3 and D4 parts are different because of the D4 being a 11 bit CAN bus system , but alas not 100% so would of course need to be verified

Hope that may help

I do like ACC but it does have its foibles. It wouldn’t concern me if I didn’t have it. I certainly wouldn’t bother to retrofit it unless it was cheap and easy to do.

My understanding, having looked into this a while ago, is that ACC was only available for SCV6 and even there as an optional thing which excluded something else that was more useful (cold pack perhaps?) for most people.

Also, unlike the FFRR/RRS version, I read somewhere that it does not STOP the vehicle....... which makes it pretty much useless. Our MY14 Volvo V70 can be relied, to a very high degree, to stop/continue in traffic with ACC on which is what makes ACC useful. (In my opinion)

Absolutely. If it doesn’t bring the vehicle to a halt I wouldn’t bother. That’s it’s
primary benefit, in my opinion.

Certain someone on here had a D4 with ACC, Iirc the car was for sale recently and he made a big thing of the ACC as not std kit
Uk cars with adblue have no rear a/c option, yet other markets did.

OK thanks everyone, this is quite helpful.

First, I don't know whether the ACC fitted to the LR4 actually STOPS the vehicle. It's indicted by two small buttons on the LHS of the steering wheel, akin to the heated steering wheel on the right side (also an option in the US).

Rear aircon is standard on the LUX models and may, I think, be standard on all models in the US. Having lived here for a while this does make sense as in the hotter parts of the country the amount of glass on top and on the sides can make the car very hot indeed.

As for whether it's worth it, I appreciate the view. I'll do some more mulling over of this. The real deal breaker is a car not having the Heavy Duty package, as they call it, which gives the car the transfer box. Having been looking for maybe 2 months I'd day less than 5% of cars I've looked at have this option. (And what's quite amusing are a couple of the LR4s I've seen with ladders, prospeed racks and huge off-road mud tires fitted, which look great, but on looking at the dash, you see the car has no low range box).

That’s interesting, I’d have assumed all D3/4’s had a low range box regardless of where in the world they were sold.

Specifically on LR4 it was dropped when the SCV6 engine got introduced at MY13. It did exist on the V8 engine all model years.

It came back for MY15 or MY16 as part of the HD pack. I guess someone at JLR figured out that most Americans didn’t ever drive off-road and saw an upselling possibility.

Most of the D4.5 models sold in Ireland were classed as 5 seater commercials and did not have the low range switch - which is very odd as the target market were the ones most likely to use it. However all the seven seaters (very rare due to tax rates) did have it.

Its one that I know can be done - just need a bit more time to research.

As LT mentioned that they did come on UK spec cars too but it was just an RR not Disco option:
https://disco4.com/forum/sale-my15-discove...86744.html

DiscoMikey seemed to think all brackets there on D4 that were needed to fit so just need one of us to do it first Laughing
