Disco 4 led rear lights

Hi i have just bought a 2010 disco4, it has had led rear lights fitted by the previous owner, i have just been out and noticed that the rear side or brake lights are glowing dimmly when it is off. Can anyone shed any light on the situation? Thanks

towing electrics fitted ? check for water in the tow-bar sockets, then dodgy connections behind near-side rear access panel (where detachable tow-hook is stored).

and welcome aboard !

You need to give more details. Are they on when the car is off but unlocked, on with the car being locked, on after the car has been locked for 20 minutes. It may have the side light Mod done, you could look at the fuses for some breakout wires.

Hi. They are the discovery 4 led ones, the black looking ones, fitted by the previous owner. They appear to only light up when it is unlocked and for a while after it has been locked (not tested how long but less than an hour), it doesn’t have any trailer wiring fitted. It is only a very dim glow, not as though the rear lights are on. Is there any likely places for a short circuit?

ok ... so it has to be some current leakage going on somewhere ... I've seen LEDs glow dimly where AC mains supply wires have enough voltage being picked up from criss-crossed wires to do that, but with DC (as cars are), it has to be something allowing current to flow by-passing the insulation,

take the lights out and see if there is water and crud in the connectors.

if not ... i'm not sure. there is a known issue of water in the channel by the nearside doors where wires are routed but I've not seen any discussion associating that with rear lights.

What year is your car?

Have you got a faint glow on any of the front lights?

Have you looked for any odd wires on the fuse box?

time it and see when they go off, if it’s 20 minutes or so, that’s the BCM going to sleep. Can you post a photo in the dark so I can see how dim, dim is for comparison.

Yes I am M3bobby. So they only stay on for around 2mins30, seemed longer the other day. Only the back lights, not fronts. They aren’t causing a problem as they won’t drain battery power or anything, I just find it a bit odd

Thought so, I’m from Kendal and my parents still live on Milnthorpe Road.

Anyways, as the poster above said, I wondered if they had been configured as welcome lights etc. I think there is a setting in the CCF or on the key fob for this and there’s also a mod which involves wires in the fuse box but this also puts the front side lights on too. When you turn off the car at night, do your main beams stay on as follow you home lights?

The dim glow actually looks about right for the normal function but that may be the camera, are they dimmer than with ignition on and side lights on?
