Disco 4 timing belts (quell my paranoia).

My car is coming up for 7 years old in July, and will need the belts doing. I know its a while off, but I need to start saving some pennies for the job.

Its a Disco 4, 2011 with 91000 miles.

I have a couple of questions if you dont mind!

I am so paranoid of getting an idiot to do it. A local "specialist" here has told my friend who has the same car, that he doesn't need to get it done until 10 years. No wonder I am paranoid.

I am even tempted to go all the way to Dundee to get Disco Mikey to do it (400 miles each way Shocked ) as he has such a good rep.

So, here are the questions!

1. Does anyone know how much I should be paying for front and rear belts?

2. What else should be done at the same time (cross over pipe as preventative?)

3. Can anyone recommend me a specialist who they KNOW is reasonable on price and does a great job?

All help appreciated Thumbs Up

Yeah, it’s 180000 km (~112000 miles) OR 7 years whichever comes first for the TDV6. The car is due for A service at that time.

This will help you https://disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpi...20MY10.pdf

Thumbs Up

Edit: noted yours is a SDV6, not sure if it’s 1:1 with TDV6

Replacement interval for belts, tensioners + idlers, due at 112k miles or 7 years, whichever occurs first

It's not a body off job, so there is not really any "preventative work" that could be done at the same time, to save future costs

I do believe your are not too far from Tim McKnight @ Alltrack 4x4. Well worth giving him a call Thumbs Up

That said, it is a lovely drive up Whistle Wink

Am having the same thoughts - mine is 7 years in Sept.
Have been given various bits of advice from
* if it is indy maintained go with the mileage to
* it must be done at 7 years.

I know the car I bought recently was stood idle and all but unused for 6 months and I was working towards early next year - so, is it a must at 7 years of age or use and/or mileage?

Mine will have done ~50k when it's 7 years old, no way am I going to wait until 112k. Besides I have WD cover and not getting it done on time is a fantastically quick way of killing that.

@DM, how long does it take you to do a belt service?

Good recommendation DM.

Just spoken to them, and the quote is good.

I see the name of Tim McKnight pop up a lot on the Facebook user group and looks like he knows his stuff to my relatively un-educated eyes

I also got mine done early in terms of both mileage & age - all 3 for £600 plus tensioners etc. Indy said nothing visibly wrong with the belts when he took them off, but its (hopefully) piece of mind.

Mine will be due next year. 2012 with 89k currently, wish I had the option to drive to Disco Mike to get it done. Bit of a trek from Kenya.
Is the water pump something that can/should be changed with the belts? Or is that a body off job?
