Disco mod regrets...

Hi everyone,

I bought my first Disco (2006 D3 2.7L TDV6 S) last month and immediately fell in love with it.
I’ve been toying with the idea of adding a few mods / upgrades.
I’d like to add a snorkel, roof mounted LED light bar and some magnetic floods at the rear that I can plug in and use when necessary.
Interior wise, I want to change the head unit for a pioneer touchscreen with Apple Car Play and add a dash cam.

My only issue is, I adore my [removed offensive word for fear of further berating from group members]. I don't want to do is add something I’ll later regret.

What’s your experiences with mods and upgrades that you’ve turned out to regret?

Should I just go ahead anyway and see how I feel?

I want a comfortable mix between practice everyday vehicle and full off-road beast with all the gadgets I could possibly need.

What has been your favourite mods?

If its for looks, save you dosh.

chrome lol, just steer away from chrome

one bit of advice is plan your electrics and any mods including wiring from the start so that you run all your wires at the same time.

also, if you do any engine mapping mods, increase your service scrutiny and oil changes - the only way you will stop a tdv6 Censored itself.

As already said if not done do belts, and fit new oil pump.

Likewise the gearbox may benefit from a MegaFlush, consider changing all transmission fluids too.

Brakes & tyres are very important. If on oversize wheels you may benefit from reducing to 17" or 18".

Good luck.

Not allowed to call it a Truck or a Jeep! Rolling with laughter

The Disco's are very capable off road anyway, a decent set of tyres is the best advice for off roading.

If you want the best between both worlds of everyday comfort and off road, maybe get an extra set wheels so you can swap depending on what you are using it for. Or, just buy something inbetween that looks decent and behaves well on and off road. Plenty of tyre reviews on here.

I like the idea of magnetic work lights though! Got a link at all?

Anyway, welcome to the forum. Thumbs Up

Very few mods are actually permanent. You can always take stuff off again.

I have 2 sets of wheels already. 20" split 5 spokes (I believe they came from a RR sport) and a set of 18" 5 spokes that came on the car from factory. I didn't like to the ride from the 20's because of the low profile tyres. I'll check out some of the tyre reviews today and see what's best in the middle ground.

Wow, there's a lot of reaction to me calling it a truck Laughing
I'll bear that in mind and never say the word again!

I've had the engine carbon cleaned with good results, what's a MegaFlush?
