Disco3 TDV6 command shift not working |
|
For a while now my command shift has not worked. I have read extensively on the net regarding this subject to find out why and possibly how to fix this. I have noted that some end up solving this problem by replacing a few parts on the gearbox side shifter arm shaft, (this however is not my problem) and where there seems to be someone else coming with light at the end of the tunnel on other possible solutions...it seems to me they so happy to solve their problem, they never bother to come back and tell us how they solved their problem.
Ever since the command shift on my vehicle stopped working, my 'D' on the gear console stays alight all the time - whether the car is running or not - and shows up the 'D' lighted in red.
My take on this is by now there surely has to be a few people out there with inimate knowledge on this problem and able to supply a concise answer as to what is going on and how to fix it.
Please can someone give me the right advice on this problem, it would be much appreciated and I will be extremely grateful!

mmmmm...... I thought you'd read the Gear selecter issues and have somehow decided to dismiss it......?
Try this.....

For clarity sake, when you talk about the gear selector being changed - you are refering to the gear lever unit inside the car and not the lever on the gearbox? Because thats what I am not sure of and no one can advise what the tell tale signs for gear selector unit (inside the car) failing is. I have seen the attachment you have recommended a couple of times before and I did have that selector arm and cable checked out (myself being present during the check) and there is no indication of play or movement of the slector arm or tell tale marks on the cable that the cable may have shifted. Why is the drive light ie "D" on the console permanently red even when the car is off?

Quote:Ever since the command shift on my vehicle stopped working
so, its either an electrical issue or a mechanical issue.
Thsi £20 part would help to identify if it is a mechanical issue.
We cannot guarantee that it will fix it, but it has fixed many similar sounding issues with gear selecter issues....
Please change it.....
You can also try to disconnect the battery (Inc Aux battery if you have one) and touch the cables together for 20 seconds, that will reset the car ECU's so can start again. Bodsys Brake Bible

Bodsy & DaveDisco3 thank you very much for you assistance...I hear you and I am going to take your advice and change the bits and pieces on the selector. I guess there is a process of elimination that may need to be followed. So let me get started somewhere.

Pist n broke, I really hope you found a solution to this problem as I have the exact same issue. I can't select shift command and nothing shows on the dash. It's like when you move the lever it doesn't even register something has happened. Also the 'D' is constantly lit up red even when the car is locked and doesn't move when you cycle through to 'N' and 'P'.
Having not owned a discovery before I actually thought that might be normal but I have since found out it isn't.
Can't seem to find anyone else apart from this thread with the same problem though so must be pretty uncommon?!
Someone please shed some light on this???

Lets get straight to the point. Everything you have described was characteristic of my vehicle. Go to a scrap yard and get a good replacement selector unit. It easy to replace and problem will be gone. Did this for my vehicle and trouble over. Everything working normal again.

Couple of years old but i have the same issues as PnB so will replace the shifter, but is it likely that the PCB on the shifter can be bought separately ?
