| discovery 3 battery cost? |

had the hdc system anavailable message coming up. reading many posts it seems this could be the battery on its way out. just been quoted 198 plus vat for a new genuine lr one. is this about right. any comments would be grateful cheers.

yes its an annagram from landrover it means "change your battery"  the HDC will still work fine
re cost OEM one was typically £130 ish but i think theres a further upgraded one out now with another price hike but does sound a bit steep

Get the exide 017 from euro car parts the 1 with the 4 year gty works out about £78 with discount code ukpas25 it exceeds the spec of the original and fits a treat
The gen lr one is now an agm battery they have been designed for stop start technology and the like they are very expensive and lr won't supply 1like that was fitted originally to your disco Club original turbo

I recently fitted the Exide battery at the same time as a replacement alternator. It's absolutely fine. Can't see any point in paying any more, especially as it has a 4 year warranty Andy

Yep I purchased 1 of the new glass-mat batteries in July and paid £158 plus vat so about £190 in total and they dont even come in a wooden box anymore 
Cured all my probs though but quite possibly any new battery would of?

+1 for the Exide and more importantly Euro Car Parts for the very nice 25% discount  I replaced the D3 battery earlier this year and have just done the same for my FFRR but with a Bosch S5, both higher spec batteries than provided by Land Rover and without any issues

It might be worth getting the battery checked before you fork out for a new one. My local indy checked mine as i was constantly getting the same communication errors on turn over. However my battery was operating at 99% so was in great condition and i think it was just down to my wife doing short journeys in the car and the battery just wasnt getting enough juice. Always starts first time with no issues so have just kept with the same battery.

I just came from the dealer.
Apparently there was a campaign to replace std batteries with gel batteries.
I was lucky to be able to purchase a 1 year old original battery which was tested and ok for 20 GBP.
Perhaps you can try this in the UK too? Discovery 3 SE, TDV6 2005, Manual gearbox, Maya Gold with flat black vinyl, Locking rear E-diff, 7 seats
