Discovery 3 engine noise

hi,

i have a really bad engine tapping/rattling noise coming from my discovery 3 2.7 tdv6 se, it happens when i start the car and then when i rev it, it gets a lot worse, What could be the issue?, i was trying to look for a similar issue online but cant find anything. Oil levels are good and everything else seems in good order.

Any info about this would be great.

Thanks

Welcome tal.......A video/ audio of the noise might help, and some history, ie. have you had this vehicle long, and did it ever sound good ? Has the noise appeared after an oil / filter service ? .......... I don’t think anyone could even begin to make a diagnosis on the information given so far. Thumbs Up

Well try this “engine noise” in the search bar https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/search.php?...rch_time=0

A lot of similar noises

Hi tal786 and welcome to the asylum!!

I agree with DN.
If you can get a sound/video recording it might help pinpoint the problem. Don't attempt to drive it, and if you can provide any other info on your ownership / recent maintenance, that would also prove helpful too.

Hi i took a recording of the noise. You can hear it starting up then revving it which makes a worse noise.

Let me know what you think it is.

I agree. Sounds like a lifter.

so i had someone come have a look at the car and put his computer on it, it came up with the code
P0263-00 Cylinder 1 contribution/balance.

he said that is an injector problem which i need to replace but would that cause a sound like this or not?

You could try moving an injector from one cylinder to another to see if the fault follows.

I had an injector fault on a previous vehicle and did this to further determine what was at fault.

Normally, the noisy lifters are more quieter when the oil (engine) is cold (more oil.pressure)
