Dog guard for load retention
Hi. I would like some advice on dog /load guards please. I don't have a dog, I just want something so that when travelling on camping trips and loaded up well, it keeps the kids and us as safe as possible in the event of an accident.
I know dog guards should be able to hold a large dog, and I don't intend to have heavy stuff up high for obvious reasons, but I would like to ensure what I get is as sturdy as possible.
The genuine item is clearly much dearer than alternatives like the Travall, and to me it seems stronger from pictures as loads against the bottom bit will presumably help to hold the top bit secure, but is that true? Is the Travall plenty strong enough anyway?
Any other good reasonably priced options out there?
I will periodically want to remove it but not often.

The best solution is the genuine LR Cargo Barrier. I have one and they are excellent.
Often for sale here, and elsewhere 2nd hand.

HI Phil,
I have the Travail and it is quite sturdy in itself, but it also braces against the back of the C Pillar trim meaning that loads high up would be prevented from bending the guard forward by those arm braces.

I can’t comment on the Travall, but I have a genuine dog guard which is also marketed as a cargo barrier for exactly the reasons you want one. It bolts into mounts in the car rather than rely on bracing across gaps, so I have full confidence in it keeping things out of the passenger compartment.
I agree new they are expensive, but perfect condition 2nd hand versions are regularly available here or on eBay for under £100 so I would strongly recommend that.2007 Discovery 3 HSE

The original is pretty sturdy. I'm sure the Travall is fine though the fixings don't look quite as substantial. The LR one is a bit of a sod to put in / take out but if you're not doing that regulary it shouldn't be an issue.
LR ones often come up for sale secondhand on here for £100 or less (I have one for sale at the moment and I'm sure there are others). You just have to fine one local-ish to you as most are collection only. That'd be my recommendation.2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

I've got the Travall. I leave it in most of the time (unless I need the 3rd row seats) and it provides load protection.
It's very sturdy. I had one for the Freelander before and had no qualms (other than paying again) ordering one for the Disco.2014 - D4 2010 HSE Nara Bronze

I have the real Land Rover one and confirm that it is sturdy. Sturdy enough to have fire extinguishers, first aid box, etc on the rear face, and gun racks on the forward face.
Should you get one and want to use the Land Rover boot protector (the bath like thing) there is one with a different part number that clears the cargo barrier fittings.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. I had the Travail in my D4 and is now surplus as I have the D5 now. I am not familiar with your location otherwise I would invite you to pop round and see it.
It was certainly strong enough to hold most things in the back and also made things in the boot secure should anybody break in.
Another good thing about the Travail is that you can still use the load cover offering more security too.

I picked up a Travall for £20 last week for the same reason. Seems really sturdy and is well braced so I’m a lot more confident about the plethora of camping gear and half the house we seem to take away with us being secure. I like the fact you can still put the parcel shelf in too.

Parcel shelf fits with the Land Rover one but has to be put in before doing the top mounts.
