Double checking which wheel bearing to change

I have a 2005 TDV6 HSE with the steering wheel on the left side, as we drive on the right (in every sense of the word Laughing ) side of the road here in Norway.

I've had a rumbling wheel bearing for a little while now. It definately sounds like it's from the front. The rumbling goes away in right turns. That means that the left front wheel bearing is shot, right?

I've jacked up the wheels several times, but can't feel any play at all. I thought I'd ask for corrections before I order the wrong bearing.

Cheers,

That would seem like a correct conlusion. Read my experience here http://disco3.co.uk/forum/topic51835.html
I could not feel any play when jacking the wheels either, but once off the car, the bad bearing felt notchy and rough to turn by hand.

Thank you for that!

Is it correct that the wheel bearing/ hub is the same (identical) on the left and right hand side? The dealer said so, but I would like to check, as I will be ordering from the UK, making it a bit problematic to change if the part is wrong.

Front left and right are the same. If it's not the first side you do, you can swap the old but good one you may have taken off with the other side if it has not fixed your problem.
I thought I had a front bearing failure, so changed it and then the other side. Turned outto be the rear bearing, so make sure you raise all four wheels and check them.
Fronts you can change yourslef asbit comes as a complete hub. Rears you have to take to be pressed out properly.

I have just had exactly the same problem on holiday up in Brittany. Popped into landrover Lorient who took it for a drive and raised it up to look for play. Noisier in left turns and a small amount of play in front left wheel so diagnosed as left bearing.

Only problem was no chance of getting it booked in so phoned Landrover Chambery, my local (1 hour away)dealer, who said next space available for the job on 23 September... Neutral

So.... phoned up TLO Bow down , ordered bearing (same LR part fits both sides) and here it is 48 hours later Very Happy - local garage round the corner fitting it later Thumbs Up

Hope that sorts it..... Wink

PS i had a little chat with LR salesman in Lorient while they were checking out the car and he denied there had ever been compressor problems with the D3 (i asked if there had been any on the D4) and also that bearing problems on D3 were unheard of..... Laughing - I'm glad this forum exists or I just might believe the muppet... Rolling Eyes

Hi gang
Just had both front ones changes yesterday

no noise running straight, a little bit as soon as you'd turn the wheels, especialy turning right.

noise seemd to come from LH side, so change this one first... but it didn't do anything. so changed the other one : now it is fine.

I am not the only one to have gone down this road, others here has, do so make up your mind when you need a fix.

then again whiel you are at it (or the garage for that matter, you might as well change both)

cheers
