Downshifting poor on new transmission |
|
I had a reconditioned box and torque put on a month ago
Now my problem is that the shifting most of the time is not very good
From 3rd onwards it feels fine and changes instant
But on lower gears you can really feel it changing gears as if it’s taking a second from start of change to change and downshifting is very clunky
I took it back to them and there saying I have play in rear axel and transferbox my question is how can I test the transfer box and rear axel
It seems if I drive it softly it’s hotrible if I belt it it changes nicely Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

Ask yourself, did it do the clunk before the recon? if the answer is no its their issue and not yours.
All propshafts/gearboxes and diffs have an element of play in them, the best thing about any auto trans is their ability to hide the play over a manual gearbox.
I would try a search for
Gearbox adapative reset
Transfer box calibration
Californie stop mod by Gap

I don’t remember it doing it before tbh but carnt really remember
Done the adaptions reset again and is shifting crap in low gears at the moment prob in the learning process again
Done recalibration on transfer box
And done software update on gearbox ecu from gap
And still does it
I do keep having a fault code now and then for maf censor but goes for days before it comes up again and run live data on iid tool and is working ok
Last thing I wanna do is through axels and transfer boxes at it Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

Who reconditioned the gearbox and torque converter?
If different, who supplied & fitted them?
You have consumer rights, of course, but do you also have a warranty?

Planet gears in peterbough they are a approved zf specialist
I don’t beleave for one minute it’s the axel or transfer box
I paid for new torque recon zf box valve body solonoids and a plate and damper
From what I been reading the symptoms are bad valve body or solonoids but just don’t know how I could test them with me iid tool Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

Been playing with the car today and trying some things
1st major thing I noticed is a half flat tyre only 13 psi in it I know don’t know how I not spotted it
And it has well improved it
Second thing is that if I let go of the throttle then Accelerate quickly I can make it thump just like what it does changing down the 2-1 gears sometimes
So my question now is to me don’t sound like
Gearbox sounds more
Like either transfer box or rear diff
Any thoughts on This as there is nearly a quarter of a turn on the prop
There seems to be a lot of play on the prop on rear axel and transfer box even with hand break on it goes nearly quarter of a turn
It clonks if sitting still and I go from d-r-d-r every time should I start by removing props and see if it still does it and then remove transfer box and see if it does it to rule them
All out before I rerurn it to the repairer who done the box Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

sound like you need to get underneath whilst someone shifts for you as its clonking when you shift, should be quite easy to find the problem if its making noises (just watch were you put your pinkies/hair) please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou

Tbh since I pumped the near flat rear tyre
Up it only does it from 2-1 and is so slight now I can hardly feel it
Don’t know if tyre pressures play a critical roll in 4x4s but when 1 rear tyre had only 11 psi or what ever it was the shifting was horrible but now I’m not sure if it’s worth worrying about Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

I think you are looking for a problem that isn't there - we all do it after working on a vehicle, all you are doing by continually making adjustments is going back th the starting line and not giving enough time for it to settle in, drive gently and forget it for the next 2k miles, IF there is something you are not satisfied with then go back to the supplier/fitter and politely ask questions. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Does a have flat tyre cause that many problems as
It seems to have really made a massive difference
I did google it and low and behold it says on 4x4 vehicles must have both tyres on a axel changed same make and size and must have the same pressures
Or it causes clunking and strain on thetransfer box which mine was and now it’s not really doing it
I know I’m properly parronoid but after new torque convertor I had done that was faulty and then a new convertor and box has def made my head screwed up a bit Disco 3 gone but not forGotten
