The dreaded spinning locking nut
Hi
So, I too have fallen victim to two spinning locking nuts and searched the forums for an answer. I tried the Dremel approach cutting through the cap (with some minor scratches). I then inserted a washer in the cut to get a grip on the inner locking mechanism but when i tried to turn the nut the top of the locking part came off and it sheared off the top of the 'stud' inside (sorry, not sure of the proper name).
Any idea on what tool to use to get the remaining locking nut off?
Cheers

I had a similar issue where the top section of the locking nut snapped away. I hammered a socket bit (16mm from memory) onto the remaining stub. It then turned with a long breaker.2006 Discovery 3 - HSE Auto

Bin the whole set of silly LR press-on cover bolts and fit some solid ones. Never have to worry about any of the bolts swelling and the cover slipping then. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Well, ended up going to Precision Engineering in Matching Harlow to have locks removed. Steve the owner removed 2. Started by cutting 2 slots down the key and lightly hammering to make smaller and then welding again. That managed to get one lock off but for the other he spot welded the spinning part of the lock from what I could see and then wacked on a socket to remove it. £60, so not too bad. Steve's contact number is 07944445752 if anyone needs to use him.
