Drinking problem!
Hello my name is 2disco3ornot and my girl has a drinking problem.
Its started when she was 10k miles old she was managing to do a good 31 miles to every gallon of grog I gave her......
Shes 35k miles old now, shes been through all the best LR clinics at regular periods but she can only get 20 miles to a gallon now........
Ive tried the expensive stuff (top shelf) checked her shoes are at the correct pressures, at this rate the kids are going to miss out on a summer holiday if I dont get her consumption down!
Have you bought your girlfriend some differant shoes, at 35,000 I guess you will have had to shod her at some point, walking boots and wellingtons will use more fuel than the standard trainers.Altox GSM FBH controller thread

The list of things that can give her a thirst is long, check/change your air filter would be my thought. Then clean your MAP sensor. Then things get more involved. They include brake calipers or EPB binding, intercooler blocked, EGRs knacked, tubo problem, and a few I've forgotten. Also mpg drops 10 - 20% in winter cf summer. Or a combination of any of the above.

They are dashboard figures but so were the original ones, surely thats relative.
Shoes changed from factory fitted to Pirelli AT's, so probably a little more thirsty, but not 10MPG
I dont think the MY08 on can have the EGR modified??
Air filter done on last service.
I have tried on motorway trips to stick to 70 for 200 miles or so but I cant get her back over 21MPG, even checked for headwinds whislt doing this!
Cleaned the MAP sensor a couple of months ago in the vain hope that was the cause.
Looks like I will have to check her into the clinic again, bloody LR Priory is costing me a fortune

Check your wheel temp after a run, I had similar figures with a binding caliper.

They don't smell. All of mine have been replaced over the last few years, a couple twice. Just check carefully. Mind you, last binding caliper wasn't causing the wheel to heat up but it was well & truely screwing up my mpg. As soon as it was changed all was well again.

That could well be it! the car is still on original discs and only the second set of pads, I might jack her up and give them a spin tonight

When TFC changed pads & discs earlier this year he spotted that the FR caliper wasn't retracting and the pads had worn unevenly. The wheel wasn't getting any hotter than the others so took til then to figure out that was the cause of the mpg dive. Mind you I was having a complete nightmare the car previously (shutting down) so low mpg was low on the priority list.

First thought would definitely be brake related. Prob the only way to tell for sure is to take the wheels off and have a good look, although checking for temp (with the BACK of your hand) may give you a fair idea.PAGODA

Have you reset the mpg readout... Otherwise it'll take an average over the full period of driving and not just the recent journeys...If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

Press the button on the end of the indicator stalk to scroll through the dash display info. When you get to the mpg one, keep the stalk button held down. That will reset it.Bodsys Brake Bible
Hi
are you experiencing any unusual metallic whining noises from your vehicle? I've just had a similar thirst problem, it turns out my rear diff is knackered and hopefully going to be changed under warranty in the next week or so. otherwise my Baby is in great shape.
Hope you get it sorted Buddy.
