England 2007 Discovery 3 3.0 TDV6 HSE Auto Barolo BlackDiscovery 3

I have taken the right hand (driver’s side) carpet up and inspected the wiring loom and all appears ok unable to find any spices. Have taken the gear shift a part again! And double checked the connector all appears good. I have taken the PCB off the selector and have noticed a slight discolouration on the PCB and wondered it could be this causing the issue.

Can anyone confirm that if the gear selector is faulty that it will cause the error code P081C parking sensor fault.

Thanks.

P081C relates to "Park" not parking sensors - they are on the rear

That’s just my memory! Could replacing the gear selector possibly fix the fault or is the parking brake causing the fault and making it look like the gear selector?

Just a thought, and I read this somewhere on another forum. With it all back together, turn on the headlights and see if problem goes away. This applies additional power to the PCB.

Just tried that, turning the lights on doesn’t change a thing, think I’ll try a replacement gear shifter as that appears to be the next thing inline that could be causing the problem.

Could it be the TCCM behind the main ECU in the battery compartment, worth a check, that it's not damp or corroded on the connections?

No joy there! I took the TCM out and by my Laymen’s eyes it was was was all clean and dry including the connections and plugs.

As soon as I turned the ignition on before starting the engine the red D illuminated on the gear selector and now will remain illuminated until the end of time! 😤😩😡

PROBLEM SOLVED 😃😃😃

After investigating under the carpets left and right, checking the wiring looms all was ok. Took out the battery and removed the TCM which was all good, I stripped down the gear selector and noticed a very slight darkening of one of the components which when I visually traced across the PCB was part of the gear selector magnetic switches.

On a punt I purchased a second hand unit off eBay removed the PCB from it visually inspected it all looked good and now fitted to the car it has it’s mojo back!!😀😀😀😃.......

....now the sunroof has started to leak, wet floor in the drivers footwell..... ....and the story goes on!!🤦‍♂️

I have circled in red on the PCB the component I’m guessing some kind of resistor or diode that has burnt out.

well done - does look like a burnt resistor. Did you spill something on the lever at sometime?

I know that I had left the sunroof open on tilt on a couple of occasions over night last summer so I’m guessing that my have been the cause. 🤦‍♂️
