To drive or not to drive - nose suspension drop |
|
After checking the wiring and connectors I can't find anything wrong so it looks like a new compressor. Unfortunately they are not in stock.
The nose of the car has dropped by now. Will I be damaging something if I continue to drive the vehicle while waiting for the compressor to arrive? CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Renton, is it dropping when parked or whilst driving?
If the first, mine did this (and still does on occasions) but compressor would pump it up. If the latter, can't advise.

Hi Wiljo,
Yes, the front is dropping when parked but raises when driving.
The rear doesn't move at all.
The 4x4 display keeps displaying "-/\ rising". CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Hi Renton,
Mine has done this for a while until I had the compressor renewed.
The compressor will produce enough pressure to keep suspension up during cruise and I don't see any harm in driving it then. Even driving with suspension all empty all that will be damaged is permagrin and your buttocks. Both are temporary.

Hmmm! Sounds like a leak in the valve block, or between it and the front "bags".
I don't see why a faulty compressor would give this fault (unless the valve block is an integral component which can't be changed separately).

Hi Bushwanderer,
The error message my compressor was producing (so I am told by my dealer) said an actuator was broken. This actuator operates a valve which prohibits air flowing back into the compressor normally. Now it remains open so air *does* flow back and apparently it has a way out of there too.
My suspension was not 'lowering', it (what do you call those rubber balls anyway?) was actually *empty*!~
So in some way, the compressor and at least some valves are integrated. The valve could not be changed seperately but the compressor had to be replaced (courtesy of my dealer on a 5 year old car ).

Who's your dealer Wiljo? Should pay him a visit
Took the car for a longer spin and it actually raises till normal height which is then displayed as "normal" height in the 4x4 display. This would indicate that the hight sensors and connectors are allright and the compressor partially functions. So a leak might be the most logical cause? CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

De Koning Land Rover in Arnhem... long way from where you are but they did have the compressor within a few days last december! Has your dealer tried finding one in any way or are they just out of stock?
Mine has developed a new prob though, it's leaning a bit (I'm suspecting one of the height sensors is packed) and I'm getting an amber 'suspension alert' one out of every three trips. Yesterday had a red 'suspension alert, max 30 MPH' and a bumpy ride to the next exit.
Booked for feb 7th.
Hope you get yours sorted,

Arnhem is a bridge to far for me Doubt if they have them in stock.
Got one on order now at Yeovil, should be getting that next week.
Sorry to hear about your new issue, hope its just the sensor. CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Wiljo,
Nice explanation. (Even though I don't remember mentioning "balls".)
Renton,
Best of luck.

You called it "bags", I said "balls", as I am struggling with this kind of technical terms in English I was hoping some native speaker would come along and tell me what is the correct word . I have learned a lot of new vocabulary in the past year from this forum.
(note to self, have to remember telling SWMBO this forum is not only good for building knowledge about *cars*)

Hi Wiljo,
No problem.
They are typically termed "airbags".
I did note, however, that you mentioned "rubber balls". Just to further your education, we are more likely to say "rubber balloons" being slang for "rub her balloons" or "rub her breasts".

Hi Peter,
this where we would call breasts 'airbags'
Thanks for helping out!

(for earlier story also see here)
Had a new compressor last September. See above; occasional suspension error since then.
Had the car serviced this week (MOT) and dealer diagnosed: compressor is packed.
Compressors now on back order here too (dealer was surprised I know, this forum is great).
Anyhow, getting my 2nd new compressor under warranty in a short time.
