Drive shaft boot or axle seal leaking? (pic)

Hello,

Would you say this is from a leaking drive shaft boot (red arrow) or from the seal on the end of the differential tube (blue arrow)? The boot clamp was a bit loose so I snugged it up.

Thanks!

leak therory

Well, I tend to see it another way. Since that corkscrew drive clamp is not original LR parts I would go with that. Either this pic is upside down or the bracket that is supposedly above got wet from slinging grease before you caught it I'll bet.
The reason why I think that, is cause that is what happened to my rear bellows. Bellows was fine the clamp had broken off.
If it were the seal I would think each side to the CV joint would be wet. Cuff looks dry.

Also not sure what above this would leak any oil?

You mlght find the jubilee clip is to wide to seal the rubber properly.
I would say give it a wipe down and monitor it.
i would also say it is defo not leaking from the blue arrow.

Thanks for the theories!
The picture is in the correct orientation. This is the 4.0 petrol engine, there is an oil filter just above the axle, that other oil stain may have been from when I changed the oil, which was when I noticed this. I did notice the oil on the axle before I changed the oil. I didn't look too close and just figured it was the axle tube seal so purchased a seal. When I went to replace the seal I looked closer and thought that it didn't seem like it was the axle seal, so I didn't replace the seal. I have done what lynalldiscovery suggested and cleaned it off so I can keep an eye on it to see where it's coming from. Luckily I have more things to fix so I'll be under the truck a lot in the next few weeks Very Happy

Thanks!

While your in there

Have you modified your front diff vent tube yet?

If not you might want to check on that. I don't think it's your leak but might as well while you are under there.

Yes I did it when I purchased the 3 7 years ago. However I recently replaced the auto transmission cooler lines (rusted/leaking) and while doing that noticed that the nipple on the top of the diff is gone. I either broke it while doing the lines or it rusted away. It's on the list of things to fix... Smile
