driver seat noise - please help

I have a manual seat TDV6SE and besides the seat not keeping its height, now I have a metallic clonking noise on every bump or direction change. I tried to put WD40, removed lower plastics but can't figure out where it's from. It's driving me mad, please help! And the dealer is 400km away...

Hi Adara

Is the seat losing it's memory position or is it changing height when you are driving. There is a lot on the forum about the memory module needing to be changed (usually for mirror dip problems) and also about the seat material sagging in time. Both are waranty issues, but it sounds as if you have a different problem. Is there anything caught under the seat (plastic bottle etc) which could affect the seat motors? Usually if there is an obstruction the seat will not lower properly and could be eratic. I assumed you checked this, but felt it should be said!

Where is your nearest dealer? I am in Cluj just now and there is one here. Is yours in Bucharest?

Haven't seen ANY Disco 3s in Romania so far - one FFRR and one RRS in Cluj.

I have a manual seat - no electronics. The problem is therefore mechanical. And yes, it is losing its height, even if I don't touch the raising lever (another known problem). There's nothing under the seat except for the messy LR modules and wires.
There is a dealer in Iasi (where I live) but it's a mess. So the nearest is in Bucharest.
There are A LOT of Disco 3 in Romania, in Iasi there are at least 10...

OK - glad to hear it. I'm off around the North East for the next few days so will keep a look out. Good luck with the seat.

Sounds to me as though the seat rails need to be tightened. They can come loose, and the seat moves, especially when changing direction on corners. You can feel the movement and it makes a metallic clonking sound.

To tighten the rails, you need to take the seat out. I'd try this before setting off to the dealer.

My seat used to clunk when the vehicle swayed from side to side, and after 2 atttempts at 'tightening' something up under the seat the dealer fixed it, and it's been fine for almost a year now. Smile

Thanks for the tips. It's not the rails, it's rather something between the backrest and the base, because when I lean forward it stops. Also when I raise the chair with the lever the clonking stops but this doesn't help much because it falls back by itself...

Sounds like mine. If you get hold of the headrest, and rock the seat front to back, does it move much? mine was very loose indeed. It used to rock back and forth under accelerate/decellerate. New seat base cured it.

Yes, it moves about 1-2cm, it looks like that @#% raising mechanism is at fault because it's sort of a "dampened" movement, not like the passenger seat which moves too (but doesn't clonk, by the way). Anything I could do myself? Thank you!
