Driving lights - OEM switch position?

Just got Mr Courier to deliver my new driving lights courtesy of excellent service from my UK LR dealer!

Got the whole pack, including the brackets and am thinking (brrr...) Confused Confused Confused of self-installing (the instructions could be better but I think I got the jist of it).

Just wondering, has anyone had them fitted at purchase and if so what is the correct position for the switch? (the instructions seem to indicate the need to cut a hole on the dashboard just to the left of the steering column, though my MY08 D3 already has an aperture there, covered with a vent-type plastic cover).

Any pictures of the "proper" position would be much appreciated! Thumbs Up

Thanks Discowex... mmm... so what's the vent just left of the steering wheel (barely visible in the pic, lower down)

So can't get away without cutting then...?? (RHD car too)

Thanks Wiggs...

Maybe I should take it in to the local LR dealer then Laughing Laughing

(wouldn't want to mess it up completely!) Has anyone actually self-fitted one? Hard job with the wiring loom?

Your welcome Biz.

Just in case you don't know , to get the lights to work your dealer or a suitably equipped independent will have to enable them to work via IDS.

Now you lost me... Confused

Enable the lights? IDS? Looks like a standard relay and pretty box standard wiring loom... (but then again I wouldn't know).

Could you please enlighten me?

Ths stock loom you received as part of the kit once fitted is part of the D3 lighting wiring system.
This system is all computer controlled as you know.
By virtue of the fact you are retrofitting the lights it then follows that the car doesn't know it has driving lights fitted.
Hence the D3's electronics system has to be " informed" that it now has driving lights fitted and could it please allow them to turn on once full beams are switched on by you.
The only way to " enable" the lights is for you to take it to a dealer who has the diagnostic/programming hardware & software to do so.
It only takes them a few mins to do but if you have decent relationship with your dealer they could waive the fee.
As a guide in costs €60 here in Ireland to get done.

Alternatively.... you could always hardwire a switched loom and relay into the existing headlight wiring as you spoke of above.Plenty of people here have done that also.

I see... gone are the good old days that a switch just opened and closed a circuit then... Shocked

Seriously though, many thanks Discowex, I was just going over the pdf for fitting them and TBH I think I'll take it in to be fitted Whistle (looks too time consuming removing the whole face of the car to fit the retaining poles plus I don't have a riveting tool LOL)

(was particularly amused at figure 29, where we are promptly instructed to stick on the LR logo at the base Laughing )

Thanks Wiggs... I take it you mean "face", "footwell" etc when in full auto mode?
