DRLs Again

Hi Everyone

Been a member for some time with a D3 and now a D4 Commercial, and I enjoy reading all the articles.

I picked up my new D4 Comercial last Thursday complete with the LEDs, however the dealer does not know how to activate them. I know this can be carried out as I saw a D4 on the M40 on Sunday with them on.

Can anyone help me to advise the dealer what to do, as he contacted LR and was told they could turn on the side lights as running lights but not the LEDs., I dont understand this Confused Confused Confused How I can get them activated?

Thanks

Richard

Your assuming his LED's are programmed, but surely he may have just switched them on manually ?
On 'sunless' days I run with mine manually switched on.
[dipped headlights when things get duller - before anyone posts]
But yes, would also have liked my LED's activated as DRL's.
I'm talking to my LR Service Manager shortly so will take this up with him.
If it's a 'no' I've also got a local auto electrician I'll be asking.

btw, I don't have sidelight bulbs, just the LED's.
Also going to explore having these fitted & wired in by LR / auto electrician.

Discoman have you actually got the LED fitted, many cars have not, from memory I think only HSE and Landmarks had them as standard but may be wrong.

HI Guys

As far as I am aware and the dealer they are fitted as I specified the headlight upgrade on my extras list. I have xenons and the side light bulb lights up but no LEDs.

I dont know about the guy on the M40 he was going the ther way at equal speed to me.

I do not know how to turn them on manually, please advise.

Thanks for the comments

Richard

Sorry to break this to you, but if they don't come on when you switch your lights on then you don't have LED's.

All D4's look as if they have LED's, but as Russell states it's only the Landmark & HSE models that have them as standard.
However they are now an option, so if you've specified [& paid for] them then I'd be right around the dealer this morning.
Only other thought is that if you have had them added as an extra, they may have to programme them in, but failed to have done so on your vehicle.

Good luck. Thumbs Up

I have a commercial and the xenon upgrade gave me the LEDs. This does replace the side light bulb though so if you have a side light bulb I'm guessing you won't have the LEDs fitted.

As mentioned before though they will only come on when switching them on manually to side lights or dipped beam or on auto with dipped beam, they won't come on with the ignition.

They can be enabled to come on with the ignition ... Or when its in gear

The dipped beam also comes on with the LEDs though

We've had this one before, I think, and it has NOT changed on 2012MY as far as I know - will confirm when I get mine on Tuesday.

The LEDS are NOT DLRs nor do the 2012 MY cars have to have them as the Legislation is based on when the ACTUAL basic vehicle design came into existance, which was before the DLR legislation for D3/4. Also AFAIK the fitted LEDS are not powerful enough to qualify as DLRs either.

So currently if you want "DLRs " I think all you can do as WIGGS says be is enable dipped headlights automatically when you switch on the ignition. This would of course put LED sidelights AND Dipped beam headlights on at the same time, i.e. not stricty DLRs at all.

I will report back if mine is any different and I know I have specked the maximum lights package available on my HSE.

There is a new optional accessory: VPLAV0066 'Daytime Running Lamps' listed in the MY2012 brochure. This consists of 2x 4LED clusters in the front bumper. The footnote says 'The Daytime Running Lamps are not illuminated when either the vehicle headlamps or side lamps are switched on'.

They are in the holes that you can just about see in the black plastic part of the bumper directly below each fog light:

Club MT/R
Club RLD spare wheel protector
Club Sump plate & tree slider

Wow just shows what I know even though I've bought one Embarassed

NEVER offered that in June when I ordered mine. I'm sure it was not on the specs options list as we spent ages looking at the LR release info for 2012MY. £500 seems a fortune to me so I doubt I would have specked em anyway.

Look like a b Censored er to fit and in a very vulnerable location too.

It wasn't on the factory fit options list I got from a dealer so I'd presume it must be a dealer fit option. Just imagine what it would cost with fitting!
