Droning noise fix ?

Been trying to track down a droning that gets slightly worse the faster I travel with a little bit of feedback thro the steering wheel
Seems to becoming from the middle to the front
So I've checked the front driveshafts thinking next front prop/ diff
Went for a run down the motorway because I only do short runs normally and checked the wheels for heating up - the rear n/s is hot compared to the other three not burn your fingers hot just definitely hotter
So my question- is that the rear wheel bearing failing, brakes are all free running no sticking
I am convinced the droning is coming from the middle to front
Any comments as usual are welcome
Cheers henda Thumbs Up

I think there are now three of us on this forum with the same issue. I am currently waiting for delivery of a front prop shaft, although I wouldn’t be surprised if that doesn’t completely cure my problems.
As for your warm brake, have lifted the rear wheels off the ground to see if they both turn as freely as each other? It could be a sticky calliper or park brake shoes.

No sticking caliper it probably is the bearing but it's the droning seems to be from the middle/front
Any way it needs doing then we will see
How did you know it's your front prop or are you eliminating things one by one

Hi Henda, this sounds like it might be a binding brake caliper or disc issue! Without more information its difficult to be certain, but if you raise each wheel individually and give them a good spin you might get better feedback on the problem.

If I suspect caliper/disc failure I usually allow the car to free roll at very low speed (under 3 mph) on level ground until it comes to a stop. Now this is the critical bit! In the final movement of the car, does it stop sharply, or does it come to a very soft imperceptible stop? I'm specifically referring to the very last moment of movement! If its the former, you might have a warped disc or a binding caliper, or both.
I know this might seem a bit simplistic, but if applied correctly you will either implicate, or exonerate the brakes.

Droning could also be the wheel bearing as you say, but unlikely to cause a significant brake temperature increase unless it is well b Censored d. In which case, this will be obvious once you do a wheel spin test.

Nice one
Will give that that a try later on , seems reasonable a binding caliper would cause then droning

Well I have given the front propshaft a good shake and there seems to be a lot of torsional play, there isn’t any on the rear propshaft.
The reason I not sure that this will be a total fix is that the noise and vibration that I get when decelerating at motorway speeds might not be connected to the constant drone at lower speed. Both appear to coming from the front of the car and are felt through the steering. I am fairly sure that the deceleration noise is the propshaft though.
