That assumes they will believe what's on the sticker, or just break the window just to annoy you. I sometimes wonder how many vans with a "no tools left in here overnight" sticker get broken into with the thief thinking "we'll see".

There is a cheaper electronic version that will stop the thieves attempting to smash off a physical lock.
Can-Lock removes the key programming option so the thieves cannot program a new key.

I wonder if that's something the good folks at GAP could look at.

Hi, just an update. Car still not found, still waiting on the insurance resolution, dreading next years insurance quote. Like you Chrispk, I am really missing my car, but don't want to replace it, kinda left a bitter taste from it being so easy to nick. The only thing I can take from this is that maybe a few people on here get some kind of better security fitted and it stops them losing there car.
Thinking about an XC90 instead.

Hi, Finally after 9 weeks, the insurance company have offered a payment for my stolen disco, £32500. However, I cannot find a 65 plate 34K SE tech, 1K of extras, service plan, for that price so I have rejected the offer twice - price I have seen for an equivalent car is £34-£36K. They claim that they use the CAP retail price as it is a more realistic price of the car. What options do I have, anyone had experience of this, are they being fair?
"We base our figures on trade guides such as Glass’s Guide, Parkers and CAPS which are considered to be a reliable source for valuing used vehicles. This is because their figures take into account the make and model of a vehicle and its age, mileage and condition. Crucially, their values are based on actual sale transactions as opposed to asking prices which reflect the sellers’ highest expectations and are inevitably subject to negotiation.
The FOS would use an average of the guides to be seen to be fair as they consider the guides to be independent and the values are derived from the subject matter experts.
It may also be worthwhile for you to look at the FOS website which would explain their view on achieving a fair value.

Richard,
Are you with eSure/Sheila's Wheels?
Sounds like the b@~#£$ks they gave us when SWMBO wrote off her 55 plate Honda Accord 2.4 Exec about 6 years ago. They offered us 5K which I reckoned was at least 1 1/2K short. Thought about going down the FOS route but times were harder then and we needed the money.
You have my sympathy.
find all advertised suitable cars within, say , 50 miles of where you are and print the details off.
send them to your insurers with a letter saying how you are prepared to travel a reasonable distance to find an appropriate replacement and this is what is on offer.

Are they one of the insurers who say they will replace your car - even if they arent, ask them to find one for you, and you can see if you find it acceptable. The whole idea of isurance is that it puts you back in exactly (no better/no worse) position than you were before, and if you cant find the same item for what they offer that leaves you in a worse position.
