There are others, but I sway towards TFC's advise he gave me and go for OPTIMA, it can handle the D3 currents, when most cannot.

I dont know the figures, but remember the advice

I feel you pain, me too............I have had to save for a IBS kit, over the top Duel system yes, but I need to carry medical kit in the D3, so want the best.

Optima can handle the charge from the D3, not sure what others can

I agree with Mac, i went for a yellow top, can remamber someone saying something about the high current that the d3 produces and only a few batts can handle it. I am sure someone with the knowledge will be along shortly.

Likewise, I couldn't justify spending out on a yellow top. So I found a NUMAX batt that fitted the bill. Cost about 70 quid ish. Only downside is the lid over the batt comp doesn't lock down fully but I can live with that. And it has lasted 2 trips to Morocco and various other forays into the wilds inthe last 14 months. Nop problems yet Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the answers.
Are all the Yellow Top batteries the same or are there variations within "yellow top"

I only refer to OPTIMA yellow top, just to clarify my position......personally I thought that was the only option, apart from a Optima Red top for cranking.

There's also the Blue Top for marine applications. Thumbs Up

TBH I know quite a few people with other batteries in dual charge setups and they work perfectly at less than half the price of the yellow-top.

Saying this and talking about going over the top, I'll be picking up an aux battery on Wednesday......and also a dual charge controller.....

Can you guess which ones they are Mac?

Largest capaity you can fit is the Varta 80 AmpH. Needs adapting but will fit.

Hi shopbobby, the Optima D34 is dear but it fit the auxiliary compartment without the need to modify either the battery or battery compartment and the genuine Land Rover D3 battery bracket fits perfectly.

There are two models of the Optima, one is designated D34, this is the correct model number and the battery has the terminal on top. The other is designated D34/##, this battery has terminals on the side and is not recommended because the terminals can come in contact with the bolts holding the battery bracket in place.
