DVD Player(S)

Has anyone gone and done the same? I've had two dvd players fitted, each with their own infrared head phones. First problem was trying to find two front loading units that nearly matched the colour of the roof, second problem was finding that whilst the kids watched two different films they would experience interference from the second unit which also raised the question of how would the further two back seats hear the film they were watching? I have posted some photos in my gallery showing the units and how we solved the sound problem.

I had four head phone jack points fitted (as shown in my gallery), which now means now matter where you sit in the rear you can watch any of the two films showing (or the same film on both as they are linked). It also meant that we had to fit an amplifier because the sound output from the units was controlled by the infrared headphones, once they where no longer being used (because of the interference) the sound output was far to quiet. In the end a lot of work but happy smiling faces at the end of the day. Very Happy [/b]

Really impressive. Did you fit yourself or have a specialist install? How much?

I am planning to install two of these in my Disco, when I get it.

Alpine PKG-2000P
Built-in DVD mechanism
10,2 inch wide VGA LCD Panel (800 x 480)
Wired RF Modulator for Easy Integration with Head Unit
Universal Remote Control (OHM / DVD / DVB-T / TV) Included
1 IR Headphone Included
1 Remote Input / 2 Remote Outputs
2 AUX AV Inputs / 1 AUX AV Output
S-Video Input
2 Level Dimmer (Auto / High / Low)
Visual EQ
Front Control Key (OHM / DVD / DVD-HU / TV)
Dome Light
Installation Bracket and Custom Fit Trim Ring
Easy Installation without Black Box
Dimensions 305mm x 52mm x 305mm
Weight 2.27Kg

The unit has two separate channels for the infrared head phones. So i do not any expect interference whilst the kids watch two different films. I plan to link the AV-output of unit A to the input of unit B, so that the kids can look at the same film or two different films. Furthermore I plan to connect the AV-output of unit B to the aux input of the iPod Audio Connectivity kit, which I already bought from Nick at Yeovil, so that other passengers (third row) can connect a headset to the audio system, or play the sound via the loudspeakers.
The setup would cost me about € 2.000,- (₤ 1.350,-).
Not cheap but pretty close to perfection, me thinks.

gesoono - I'd love to say that I fitted it but I didn't although I did stay with my baby the whole time (8 hours) and made sure that it was fitted as I wanted it. Cost £1500. Whistle

Henkreyn - Great unit but my wife wanted to match the roof colour. I do have one question about the ipod kit. I have my ipod using the AUX (the reason why the DVD's are not using it) so are you:
1) Not going to use your ipod if a film is being used?
2) How are you going to get the left film to the third left seat and the right film to the right third seat?

It was the problem I faced and the only answer I found was the way I did it. Thumbs Up

I can use the ipod as long as my kids (I only have two) use the infrared headsets. If i switch the Ipod connector aux input to the DVD player(s), I will not be able to use the ipod, you're right.
I see your point about somebody in the left third row seat wanting to listen to the left dvd unit and not the right one. I did not think of that Embarassed , so I now understand the point of your setup. Thumbs Up

Was it easy enough to get the cable into the roof or was it a ball ache......currently weighing up options for mine and so far roof mount is winning unless its a Censored to fit then it'll be something else....

I've a single roof mount DVD/TV in mine (not the LR one), in the centre, so can be seen from all rear seats. Same colour as roof lining, with interated FM modulator, so no need for wires for sound. I have one of the radio channels tuned to it, so can play the film sound through the car audio, or the kids all have a set of quite cheap (about £5) radios with headphones, which they tune to the unit, and can use them for other listening too.

Brought nes off fleebay for £199

Getting the cable into the roof wasn't a problem, there is plenty of space but you need to know what you are doing Thumbs Up

al cope Love the idea of using an FM modulator but do you get any interference from radio stations?

My unit has a selector, with a chioce of two FM channels to use, so no, I'v been OK. One is close to radio 2 here in the UK, but no cross over.
