You can't fit one upside down because of the wing cutout having different sized slots at the end.
That was my understanding also.
but it's symmetrical about the white line ...
... so flipped (effectively as per it's reflection in the door ! ) it goes in the slot "from the other side", or in the other door in real life.

I got a set of these the other day and can confirm both lights go the same way so no need for modding, however the box they came in did have version two on it, so perhaps they’ve addressed the previous problem with the lights going opposite ways.
