I just factor a new battery into the annual maintenance cost now. The Disco is hard on batteries and if you have no choice but to do loads of urban driving, short duration, in a cold climate, the battery gets knackered all the more rapidly.

I just noticed the invoice for my current battery which won’t start the disco, only bought it in December 19! I have 2nd optima traxide set up so would’ve thought id get longer than this out of it. That was exide EA1000, is it worth getting a better one next time?

I tend to avoid exide.
Varta should be good
And for those on a budget numax (got 13 years out of one of them on a Vauxhall )

I posted this on another battery thread recently.
Quote:
I was a Varta fan, and/or Bosch which were made at the same factory. At various points in time Bosch owned the Varta battery business, and Varta has owned the Bosch battery business. I believe now both Bosch and Varta batteries are made by a 3rd party in France.
Both of the Varta batteries I've bought recently (7 years) (one in the disco, and one in a VW Passat) have failed.

Myself and a number of people on here have had issues with exide. I would say its the brand that is complained about most. And maybe the only brand. The fact this thread exists....
Varta used to make batteries for JLR (ok maybe in the previous decade) and I'm sure do ones for BMW etc. too
It's at least 5 years old as it came with the car, and didn't look "just fitted" either, and every winter since then I've asked on here what to get when it dies.
It's only glitched twice and car then showed loads of faults but they clear, it rarely stays above 11.9 volts when watched via secret menu, on occasion it stopped FBH launching due to low volts ... but it refuses to die and car starts on the button every time.
So replacement will be another of the same. I just keep checking Halfrauds for a sale on them. Trade card helps too. .

Exide d3 used on very short commute started to show issues after 18mths, might have been less, Yuasa 019 3 yrs then started to show weakness, exchanged under warranty at Halfords.
Halfords and a discount card much = the same price as Tayna, and you can go and talk to someone if you have problems.

Yuasa have a good five year warranty, i have had a couple replaced without any issues.
Bosch are complete rubbish and they wont replace them if you do short journeys even though it states no quibble warranty in there paperwork.Andrew

My last battery an excide started to fail after three years and was replaced foc by my local factors but i found out that when fitting my new one the earth clamp had a crack that prevented it fully tightening so there was probabally nothing wrong with the old batteryAndrew

I've had one Yuasa failure in over 30 years of using them. The one that did fail was 4 years old and was replaced FOC. I use them for all our family vehicles, boat, quad, mower, and customer vehicles too.
It always amazes how peoples experiences differ so wildly with the same products.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Just went on halfords. £114.40 for yuasa hsb 019 with 5 year warrantry well worth the bit extra in my view.
Well i’ll see how this goes and probably be back on this thread in hopefully more than 3 years time.

Halford changed my 019 even though I couldn't find the receipt.
I had emailed customer services and they authorised the change on production of the email at a Halford store.
The battery was about 4 years old.
Always thought Yuasa as good batteries as they were always used on all Japanese motorcycles that I had.
