Evening all,
Looking to blank the EGR’s as I think I have the start of a egr issue.
What is was hoping to do was leave the pipes and fittings in so any picky MOT inspector has less to worry about.
Looking at advanced factors there seem to be two kits, one with a sealant and bolts. And one with zip ties. Is there a better one from your experience?
I have seen the instructions for removal and it looks straight forward. Just wondering if there is anything I need to do different from the instructions to leave the pipe attached and looking to be working?
Thanks again!

I had some blanking plates off member wiggs on here. They go between the egr and the pipes up to the intake manifold. Also you have to remove the butterfly on the y branch or it starves the engine on idle I believe. Easy job lots of threads about it on here. Mine was disgustingly dirty. If your car is 07 on (euro 4) you may need (read as more than likely) need a software patch. Jarrod

Thanks for the super fast response!
Will send a PM to Wiggs and see if he still has some.
Stupid question alert but I assume you only need to blank at the EGR end?
Mine is 58 so assume I need the software patch. I also assume / hope it can it be loaded with an iid?

No problem.
I think I actually have an af kit laying about as I ordered one by mistake. I’ll have a look tomorrow.
Software patches are done by a few of the guys on here if you want to let someone sort it. I think you can pay someone like gap for the software and do it yourself also. I will be paying someone as I want a remap at the same time. Iirc they will do it a bit cheaper if you have a remap also. Jarrod

Patch is available from Bell Auto Services and can be applied with the IID. Price is closer to £200 I think. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Yes you do. You have to send ECU details to BAS for them to create a patch for you. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Great thanks guys! Somthing to mull over!
I assume without the patch the can goes into limp home mode as I know when the egr issue first reared it’s head the car didn’t drive right as all. Reset the codes and it went back fine.

Blanked my 08 after one of the egr gave up for the 2nd time - I had the engine management light come up on mine intermittently, every other start...
Really irritating having to reset it all the time, but no limp mode even with plates in (just remember the butterfly valve as noted in the thread).
I had a re-map including the egr delete with quantum tuning, very happy with the results.

Re limp mode, I think 'it depends'. I ran mine for a year or so without the patch and it was fine but the warning light would come back regularly. That was okay for the MoT back then but I'm not sure if it would be okay under the new rules.

Egr - Exhaust Gas Recycling, From various pictures on this forum, the "gung" that accumulates is due to the oil fumes being reticulated. Why don't you clean it up and use a device called a "catchcan" this separates the oil from what is being recirculated and only 'oil less' fume goes back to the engine fixing the EGR problem saving the replacement exercise, or maybe this cannot be done on a LR3. Just a thought as it is popular in Australia on many diesels.

Interesting regarding oil fumes, I did this with a can and oilfilter on an audi 2.0tdi i had as it filled up my intercoolers with oil. The breather from the rocker cover fed into the compressor inlet of the turbo. Made a big difference to the amount of gunk in the inlet manifold and egr.
Wonder if it can be done aswell as and egr blank on a tdv6 ?

When my EGR valve packed up the accumulated carbon in the Y inlet manifold caught on fire and burned holes in it.I got a second hand Y piece and cleaned it with oven cleaner then fitted blanking plates and removed the butterfly and then used a manfold cleaner with the engine running, best done outdoors well away from any habitation as it sent up a cloud of smoke and covers everything in black soot but it does clean it up.
The MIL light was still lighting up but a cheap EGR valve and a resistance fitted cured that.
