Ok guys, in the process of blanking EGR, can I just blank at the bottom of the pipes where the engine is and leave as is at the top after removing the butterfly valve
Which do the collective think is best as I want to leave the pipes in place.

I would insert a blank between the EGR and pipe and blank the top and just leave the top open, if yours is 2007 you will need to get the EGR's written out in software otherwise you'll get the MIL onPete

So, I managed to get the EGR pipes for my car from the previous owner.
it's the flap from inside the 'throttle body' - it closes when the EGR's are open to force feed the engine with crap, need's removed when EGR's are blanked to stop a big vacuum in the inlet manifolds if it were to close.Pete

I’ve blanked both top and bottom openings and left the pipes in place, just removed the stubs. Yes I’ll Ned to get the patch done before the mot just need to find someone closer to home to sort for me.
If anyone on here fails the MOT due to pipes being disconnected I’m sure they will post so Other members can then attach their stubs again.
Just out of curiosity, which side of the vehicle had more gunk in, mine was the passenger side.Discovery3 TDV6 GS

Thanks!
So should I have two, or is there just the one?
Think I need to search youtube a vid of the blanking process

The do seem heavy on the carbon deposits.
However, there was also this thing in the bag.
Any idea s what it might be?

Um. No clue what’s been done, but that sounds serious.
Could that damage anything?
All I know is that these are the bits the guy gave me yesterday, and the blanking was supposed to have been done by a mechanic mate of his.

Ive just looked at the BAS egr blank instructions and they do reift the shaft minus the flap, but I had forgotten about the actuator, so if that makes an airtight seal over the shaft bushing no worries?

that’s what i done as per instructions , removed butterfly and replaced the shaft section , also replaced actuator to ensure there was no air leak
also found some stainless steel 1.5mm blanking shims which i can then blank off between the egr and pipes and just leave the top open on the throttle body
will clean the crap off the pipe stubs
going to take a few mm off the blanking plate with the bench grinder as u can just see it very slightly
