Slow moving traffic "transmission fault" |
|
Hi,
I've had my Disco 3 HSE 2005 model for two days, and have found a couple of faults which I'll hopefully be able to fix soon (rear parking sensors not working, but fronts do, and transmission doesn't go into sport / manual mode & cruise control doesn't work without the headlamps being turned on - I've found threads describing a fix with a corroded wire which I'll do next week)
However today travelling down the motorway, very slow moving traffic, and while in slow moving traffic I was having a play with the terrain response and the suspension. I did lift it up a couple of times, and had put it in snow gravel mode, and mud and Ruts, then suddenly I got a message of 'Transmission fault. Stop safely" and some warning lights on the dash, with a fault on the 4x4 info screen of he HDC. I saw that the terrain response, suspension and HDC lights turned off and were unavailable. I stopped, turned the car off then on again, and all was well, no problems. It's been fine since. I've just tried the suspension and terrain response even HDC on a couple of rutted lanes near me and it all worked fine.
Has anyone seen this before - is it likely to be a weird anomaly or is my car imminently about to Go wrong?
It's had a new suspension compressor fitted last year, so hoping it isn't that.
I did think that it's a little bit slow to raise into off road setting after this, but I could be paranoid and imagining it.

not sure you are supposed to change it whilst moving.
I had similar issues, nearly all the splices in the sill troughs both sides were corroded and the plugs in the NSF wheelarch.
Get the codes read with an IID tool

Cheers, hopefully that's it, though I'd have thought that if you shouldn't change while moving the car wouldn't have let me?
I've got myself on the group buy for an iid tool, hopefully will get that soon.
As for those wires I'll be having a good look at them tomorrow after work!

You are supposed to select the mode you want and use it. Selecting between modes should really be done at a standstill with a pause between selections so that the ECU can settle in the changed setting if you wish to 'play' in that setting. Dave

Thanks guys I appreciate that, in that case sounds like my own fault that the car had a panic!

I've never had to stop before changing terrain modes or engaging hdc . I stop before going low range to high range or visa versa in neutral to be on the safe side although it will still engage roling slowly with out a crunch.
