egr failed in the alps!
After 6 years of D3 ownership, had my 1st egr fail this morning. Was parked underground in hotel car park, car would not start. Eventually got it to run with loads of black smoke. No throttle response at all. 2p piece inserted into the top of the left hand egr pipe has got it running nornmally again. EML is lit, but should get me home to UK next week. Thx Guy Salmon Stockport for assistance over the phone. LRA were less than helpful TBH. Did not phone me back.

Think mine just failed too!
Stratstone Bury said, sounds like EGR, ring LRA, They'll recover it to us & give you a car.
Rang LRA, Sorry sir, your car was 1st reg in December, so your warranty ran out 3rd February.
Now there's precission engineering at its best, Fail as soon as the warranty is over!

Had 2 turbos fail just out of warranty, I'm sure it's a design feature!
Ss, how come your car is registered in Dec and warranty dies in Feb??
Strange ! Me too did a little digging , thanks to this site signed onto topic , and found out mine was first reg ,25 may ,warr starts when first delivery to customer , so demo vehicle , then your warr starts When youbuy it , found out got 6 weeks more warr than I thought 2008 ,hse, it does what it says .

2p
I reckon a 50 eurocent bit would suffice. Skiing is good, needs more snow to be perfect. Oh, and a bit less wind and more sun would help. Maybe get rid of the fog for good measure. Apart from that, its fine.
Interesting indeed my mot will be may25 /08 and my warr will still be running until 1 July 08 according to their details , via topix , ! , bit backwards !!!2008 ,hse, it does what it says .
Not one, but BOTH EGR valves!

Going to Switzerland on the 11th March and that would be my worst nightmare.
Hopefully nothing further will go wrong on your trip

Nah, your turbo packing up terminally, brake calipers binding on, diff grinding itself to a paste, all your airsprings deciding to leak at the same time, or all of them. Now that would be a nightmare! Just take couple of 2p coins & you'll be fine!
PS SWMBO's suggestion for a nightmare trumps mine - your engine going bang (camshaft failure or injector problem), now I know I didn't marry an optimist!

Got her back from Guy Salmon in Stockport today. All fixed with new port side EGR valve. Also, she had a double flush on the auto gearbox and an oil leak on the transfer box fixed. There was a certain amount of shuddering on gear change when hot.
All seems well now, and she has had a timely wash after the Alpine adventure.
But .... I never got my 2 pence piece back, robbing b ds

My engine malfunction light lit while waiting in the queue for the return Chunnel trip after 1700 mile doing trip to the Austria: EGR valve! Luckily I was already due a visit to the dealer for my second CD unit so they replaced the valve as well. Now all I have to do is fix the cracked headlamp - hit a pheasant on the autoroute. £750 for the cluster from dealer! Have to be an insurance job at that price. Ho hum.
