They can if you blank them at the manifold.

I have done this, valves not even bolted onto the engine, and in the process of getting rid of the coolers too

Hey, like to blank both RGR but have some questions:

- If blanked at the flanges, is there any problem with the electronics?
- Are there any faultcodes coming up
- Do I have te clip on the wiring of the EGR's or not?
- The valves themselves can still be mounted onto the engine?

Regards,
Glenn

Glenn,

For 07MY vehicles on (EU4), blanking the EGRs will (normally) cause the engine MIL to illuminate. The best solution is to fit emulators such as these: https://secure.bellautoservices.co.uk/stor...-20072009/. They do also require modified software. Wink

The valves can indeed remain in place - and the pipes too if you want to keep it inconspicuous. Thumbs Up

Is there a DIY solution?

Does anyone have the dimensions for the blanking plates / flanges, this would be great ??????

It appears the BAS site may be having issues at the moment. Wink

It can be done DIY if you purchase a remap interface and one of Pete Bell's excellent remaps. I believe the kit comes with blanking plates. Thumbs Up

Sweden

I recently replaced both EGR's on a TDV6 2007, and took some detailed photos of how I do this in addition to Mikey's excellent guide above, hope it may be to help for some DIY'ers. Thumbs Up

In order to not loose screws to never be seen again, I secured them with a piece of steel wire.

LH EGR valve inner screw is tightened.

An EGR bolt secured with wire.

Had use of the smallest ratched handle I have, only 95 mm long, here compared with a more normal 1/4" ratchet handle.

When you got one bolt started I did the next, just to wind up the vire in the right direction so it not unwinds when pulling it off.

Here you see one screw with wire on and also another wire used to hang the gasket onto the screws. Note the screwdriver put behind the head of the right hand screw to ensure this is not pushed out and lost.

With a crowbar the EGR is levered out some, it changes access from none to a little.

Detail of crowbar and the long TX30 bit.

Screw handle attached to other side.

After winding in with screw driver it could be tightened with the tiny ratchet handle.

EGR Replacement

Thanks for taking the time on the extra photo’s Edfors, couple this with DMs excellent guide and it gives an even more concise view of what to do, neat trick with the wire.
I intend to change mine when ready as not going down the blanking route so a great help.

Both EGR's replaced

Just replaced both EGR's - had the usual, power loss and MPG dropping (But the Faultmate confirmed it anyway - just B side on the faultmate but thought might as well do both!)

My hints for anyone about to try this:

An 8mm ratchet spanner would have helped!
The rear most Torx bolts are not easy but make sure everything is removed and give it a bit of leverage and a lot of perseverance and they will come out - definately replace with hex heads, far easier to hold and put back!
I wouldn't even attempt again without a magnetic pickup tool. Thats not just for getting those dropped bits back (You will!) but very useful for holding in confined spaces and locating bolts etc whilst offering them up!
I also got fed up with dropping things down the engine bay so I tied some good quality string around the tools I was using - this also helped to position the front end of the tool and pull it in to locate (Particularly on the rear most torq bolt on the passenger side - which is a pig!!)
I would also make sure you have lots of extensions, and a flexible extension is quite useful!

To be honest it is not that hard but just very very fiddly, so follow the excellent guides on here and just give it a go! But allow several hours! Took me about 6 hours to do the Drivers side and about 8 hours to do passenger side - but not in any rush and like to sort any other issues I see while in new areas so that always adds a bit of time!

Goodluck to anyone thinking about it - just finished mine an hour ago and initial test ride shows very positive results!

But its very hard on your back so the plan is now to sit and veg with a whisky or two!!!!

Any reason why you didn't blank them? Confused

To be honest I looked at the blanking option but it looked like to me that I would have to blank them and then have some extra work done to fool the system into thinking they were still functional? (Of course I could be wrong on that?)

I wanted to do the job complete over the bank holidsay weekend as I rely on the car for work, and I didn't want to drive around with any engine management lights on (Stresses me out too much!)

Plus I thought whilst I was in there blanking might as well just put them back as OEM - do appreciate that recirculating Exhaust Gases is never going to be good for an IC enngine but at least it is still original and that was important to me also!

So short answer is just personal preference really?

An 06 can be blanked without a software patch

Still, it's done now. Consider blanking next time you have an issue Whistle

Mines an 07 plate (Maybe I have put that wrong somewhere?)

I checked with the VIN (Cant find what it was now but I think it showed it as an 08 from the Vin, which was a nice surprise!)

I would have gone for the blanking otherwise!

Hope I never have to do it again anyway, a right Censored of a job!!

(Just noticed it does say 06 on my profile....... My bad!!)

Hi, can any one tell me the size of the 30 torx to be replaced please.
