EGR Valve - will I damage engine if I drive it? |
|
I've searched the site and diagnosed that I've got EGR valve failure, power loss at low revs etc. My question is will I damage the disco TDV6 engine if I drive it with the defective valve for a week until I can get the blanking plates and make the repair?
Any info greatly recived...
Only had the car two weeks!!

I drove mine for a good few weeks before I got the blanking kit from Pete, no issues what so ever.

Dealer just booked us in 3 weeks away for EGR (and some suspension part on warranty) and we have two faulty EGR's apparently so I hope its ok!!!
Consumption has been pants for months, so its probably been bad for ages.
Why no engine fault light though I want to know?!

Not sure, mines is 05MY so I dont believe it shows a fault on the EMS, though if you blank them on your 07MY, I've read on the site that it shows a continual fault!
At least its covered under warranty, stealers wanted £400 for parts and was charging me a days labour at £100 an hour, blanking kit is the way to go!

Blanking kit from Bell Autos fitted today, very good instructions and images helped me fit it. Took my time and was careful not to break anything, damage wires etc and tood 3 hours in total (in dinner and cups of tea). A quick test drive down the road confirmed that the car performed as it did prior to the EGR failure.
Good kit Pete, any DIY mech with some basic skills and knowleadge about what end of the spanner to use can do it without too much problem.
I'll keep everyone posted on any changes, good or bad!

Josh,
Well Done, you'll feel a huge difference in performance if it was anything like mine.
Keep me posted?
