Hello,
once again this question because I don't find an answer here.
On the 2005 Disco 3 when blanking the EGR's it is necessary to delet them in the ECU?
There is no conflit with the engine function or that MIL light on the dash board?
Cheers

mine are blanked on a 2006 model.
No lights on the dash only 2 fault codes on the IID but I can live with that

Hallo,
I had the EGRs blanked since at least six years ago with no issues since.
Usually they get blanked at the outlet to the inlet collector so that they don't send any dirty back in the engine.
Doing like that you don't need much work to do and they stay there working or not with no nuisance to the engine, but they are cooled by the engine cooling system and part of exhaust gasses passes by resulting in a sort of a slow corrosion. This leeds to failures. If for any reason this corrosion connects the exhaust gasses with the cooling system the pressure of the exhaust gasses blow to the engine head which melts.
The cooling system monitoring devices will not advise you about the problem because the water will be trapped in the lower part of the engine, the water sensor in the tank will be the last to be left without water and the temp sensor is too far to be useful.
First of all you will notice a little power drop: when power is requested the transfer shifts gears and revs up with no response on speed.
Than the oil red signal lits on your dash ( because of high oil temp, not low press), then a few secs after the engine stalls and all is already done.
Blank it from the exhaust side and keep gasses flowing in the exhaust pipes, just to stay on the safe side.
I could also say that it will be cheaper, but you realize that only when it happens.
Cheers
Gianni

Hi Gianni,
What do you mean with outlet to the inlet collector? Is attached to exhaust manifold directly removing the cooler and the water pipes, or to the EGR cooler where the EGR valve is attached?

Basically you can get two kits
1 kit has only two blanks and they go between the egr flex pipe flange and the egr valve flange down each side of the engine, this is favoured in the UK as we now have to have functining egrs for the annual test, well at least they have to appear to function!
2nd kit has 4 blanks and removes the flex pipe altogether.
Either kit works well and no ecu work is needed for early cars.

This is what I am going to do now: remove all the stuff since they don't go checking the engine bay during the MOT test.
Since two days ago the engine was working properly and last MOT test prooved a good exhaust performance.
Cooling system pipes will be rerouted accordingly, taking into account the absence of the EGR valves.
