Andrew, I have just had a new actuator fitted today that was an order from lr. This was due to what i described as a gear type of graiting noise for a split second on release and application. When i get a moment i shall have a look for a part no.

The repair package is nearly complete!
Cost including special tool should be under £20; work should take an afternoon...
Basically the design-faulted gear-and-shaft is bored out with a 4mm reamer and the insert fitted, spring and circlip applied with special tool. Re-assemble. Refit EPB unit. Job done

EPB finally got me after 6 months being in denial, it was working fine and I childishly thought it would continue to do so, even after I had read all the post on this marvellous site. My wife was especially impressed as we were on the M60 in heavy traffic and at the lights in a 'live'lane, my daughter informs me that when the time comes she will find the smelliest care home with the most heartless & twisted staff for me & the car. The only thing that took the pain away was the clowns that kept hurling extremely createive abuse at me as they tried to extricate themselves from 1cm behind me, despite the hazard warning lights and red triangle, which was eventually spectacularly crushed sending shards of red plastic in all directions, but mostly toward my face. One particularly demented citizen went around the island to pass me a second time to add things about my mother he evidently omitted on the first tsunami of hate. The police kindly assisted me in getting my screaming car over to the hard shoulder 'till the AA could attend. They could not tow it to the dealers as they were bleeding shut, so I now have a replacement Mondeo until mine is fixed.
Finally, didn't mean to ramble but driving this piece of crap has made me miss my D3 more than my children(especially the one who is going to consign me to hell hole). My main point:- Is there any cause for optimism once this is repaired or do I have to live with it?
Thanks for all the great information from everyone on the site. Nigel

Hi Keeno ,
I did email you direct, but it bounced
My brother re-bushed the offending gear -I will put the engineering drawing in my gallery (in PDF format) if I can manage it from my iPad !!!
Otherwise I can email it but the eircom.com address was refused as "unrouteable". Do you have another?

Cheers, Martin!
I managed to get it into my gallery direct from my brother's PC as I am at his house. But thanks for the offer and WOW! - How is that for monitoring members' distress points??
Anyway - to continue - Keeno (and anybody) the repair bush details are
Excellent job and excellent write-up.
I wonder if it would be possible to commission the manufacture of a small batch of bushes to prevent the screeching problem happen again. I would not mind ordering 2 of them.
Best regards and thanks again for that superb job
Cheers from Spain
