Electronic parking brake fault message |
|
I would welcome your assistance with Electronic Parking Brake Fault. Coasting up to a junction the other day I had the epb fault message appear. This first happened last Saturday. Symptoms epb fault on screen, with the yellow warning light, this then immediately cleared then 5 or so seconds later same message but with red light. Again cleared in a second or so later. Co incident with the second occurrence with the red light 4wd screen went off as did the radio, engine kept running. This happened a few minutes later during freewheeling but only the message and the yellow light no loss of radio etc, brakes were not applied during any of these incidents. Continued for 20 miles no further occurrences.
Retrieved the fault codes (Fault code C1A00-17) but this only recorded the fault from last weekend. Fault codes now cleared, From what I have read its likely to be alternator or battery. I have noticed the special programmes not available when the vehicle has been left parked for a few days, this disappears within a couple of seconds of starting. This doesnt happen if just left overnight. I have now purchased a plug in voltmeter, which gave readings of 14v with engine running and 12.3 without. If anyone could shed some light on this before I go and purchase a new alternator / battery it would be appreciated. Many thanks

All these and many more were resolved by fitting a new battery

I had read that the battery can cause issues. Took it back to Halfords where the previous owner had purchased the battery, they said it just needed a charge. Anyway put on charge, all ok then stupidly tried to lock with bonnet open, system obviously woke up then 1/2 hour later hazzards, lights stereo and fan all running, epb fault. Battery @11.5v. Took battery off and charged but didnt seem to hold charge. Purchased a new battery 2 months ago and its been fine fingers crossed since.
Strange though the battery i removed was charged and still has over 12.5 v showing.
First symptoms were special programs off when starting, which is a common fault whan the battery is on the way out.

I’m having all these issues plus loosing all radio/aux sound coming through the speakers. I’ve been told it the alternator but from what you’ve said it might be worth changing the battery first.
