embarrassing question
Started my baby this morning in the freezing cold after 10 days of not going anywhere
and as i was walking around noticed what looked like steam coming from under the front of the engine passenger side
crawled under the bumper and there is a metal pipe about 15-20 mm pointing downhill at the bottom of the engine . I would say vertically in line with the battery
anyway after a couple of minutes the vapour dissapeared from the pipe.
as a complete novice anybody can tell me what this is or does
i dont have any issues with the car so i take it something normal
cheers

It's the Webasto pre heater, it heats the coolant circuit when the engine is cold.
Search for fbh or fuel burning heater on the site.

but then again its because of this time of year ?

It was actually a nice question in the way you made it.
Well... I see that you already have your answer.
What people forgot to say was: Congratulations! you are very lucky and should be proud of having your FBH working without any issues after long time not being needed!
Enjoy the joys of warm and cosy cockpit during your ride.
