One for the serious diagnosticians - NSR Susp low by 30mm

Hi there,

Guys, I was wondering if any of the seasoned diagnosticians can help offer a solution to the following fault.

Our Discovery 3 is sitting low by about 30mm on the passenger rear corner only.

Obstruction warning coming on when lowering to access height. Vehicle front lower arms polybushed, loosened off all arms slighty (front and rear) to ensure that they were not causing friction issues - no change.

I know my way around vehicle diagnostics pretty well , especially on the Disco 3 and RRS (I use the Land Rover SDD system). Not being one to change components without having actual data proving there is a fault with a component, I have checked/carried out the following.

No fault codes are logged

Checked live data on all four height sensors, all seem fine. Checked height sensors for physical issues - no problems found)

Disconnected battery and left overnight, definitely no leaks

Corner valves are working perfectly

Calibrated air suspension - won't calibrate due to the heights of the other three corners being vastly different to the passenger side rear height.

Compressor (recently fitted) is working correctly, all pressures are good.


I read on another forum that the air suspension bags can give obstruction warnings when they have aged, is this true?

What do you think guys, has anyone seen this issue before, or have any suggestions?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm a foolhardy diagnostician but the bit that is slightly odd is the cal not working due to the corners being 'vastly different'. If the sensors do not recognise the height difference why would the EAS prevent a cal?

My guess is that the height sensors do recognise the mismatch and the problem is with a pressure sensor or physical obstruction. Did this fault come out of the blue or was it after suspension work?

Thank you for the response and the welcome Very Happy

When I put in the measured values in for the four corners (hub centre to wheel arch) the calibration will not let me continue with the calibration stating that they are out of parameter.

I have also noticed that when I carry out a air suspension system self test via the LR SSD system, I receive a message stating that the system was unable to carry out the test.

I didn't mention it in the first post as the inputs and the outputs at the ecu seem to be fine. Is anyone aware of any of the other forum members ever having suspension ecu internal faults?
