Hi - Does any one know if there is a post on here for Engine Bay Lighting.
I do a lot of night time work and some times its nice to check under the bonnet - but I find it hard to believe that Land Rover "bless their cotton socks" never put a light in or 2.
My dads got a Mercedes and BMW - both have superior engine bay lighting !!!!!! the BMW has 3 lights ... 
Is it that only the Germans go the extra mile.
Any thoughts of how to make a Pucka Job - like factory finish.

Perhaps it is because the German makes break down more offten and you need to see what you are doing even at night   MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Not engine bay ..and not factory ...but i fitted these in the back and are great ...very slim and would proberly fit in there no probs

Nope, My Volvos also had nice automatic engine bay lights. Just the Germans and Swedes then.  Dr. Ian Malcolm:

 I'm already waiting 4 weeks for the 300mm units off litewave and the way they are talkin it will be another 4
dont seem to be in a rush to restock 
they have longer units that they say can be split if you want to try that route A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

They could be but it would probably be easier to just fit a second switch somewhere.
One car I had used a mercury switch and a relay to switch the under bonnet lights. Totally over the top. .

My first Volvo had a mercury switch. Worked fine until the day I parked it on a 1:4 hill and came back to a flat battery Dr. Ian Malcolm:

Before anyone fits any LED light strips in the engine bay, has anyone checked what the upper temperature limit is for these strips? I've seen some LED bulbs rated at around a maximum of 40ºC...I'm sure the engine bay can get hotter than that on a sunny day without the engine running. Dr. Ian Malcolm:

I have used old Volvo engine bay lights....these only need a power feed theuse the metal as earth & have a mercury tilt switch fitted. Simple & they work BREXIT - done properly.

You can always wire an alarm pin switch under the bonnet to trigger the lighting that you need, I havn't used it for my LR3 but it's wired in my old mustang to trigger an engine bay light.

Thats a good point "stapldm' - I've bowed my girl friends oven temp gauage & will put it under the bonnet when its been for a long motorway run.
Does any one know what: for example a rear number plate bulb & plastic housing will stay in one piece ? (TEMPERATURE)
As I have noticed 5 nicely shaped square hole just inside the bonnet that will take these number DS3 number plate lights.
Wiring would be a simple job - and a small switch.
