I have 2007 disco3 tdv6 206000 kms - engine failure due to casting holding timing belt tensioner broke and engine totally destroyed - possibly faulty since new but at this stage, no further information from lra - anyone else heard of this expensive problem, thanks, otherwise love the car

Hi wicket and welcome,
It's beginning to look like there may have been a series of engines with casting faults in 2007 D3s. Unfortunately, I don't think that LR have acknowledged this yet.

More here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic71560.html Hopefully engines built mid 05 aren't affected. Assuming Just-in-time manufacturing would be interesting to get the rough build dates from the likes of seat belt label or headlight stickers.

So early ones seem to be suffering with crank failure, and now 2007 onwards are suffering with the casting? Makes you worry a bit, but considering how many have been produced and how many have failed it is still minor.

Very minor, but non the less serious.
It would be very good if we could get some engine numbers and vin ranges together to try and build up a picture. Also, would be good to get a photo from someone of a failed casting, so we could at least have a clue as to what to look for.
If its consequential damage though, it might be very hard to prove.
