And if the timing is OK, thrash her up the A1 within an inch of her life. Then stop tormenting yourself and enjoy the south of France, and beautiful Cote d'azur.

Pop in to Alymer motors in potters bar. I used Them when I lived in Knebworth and they know their stuff. Am sure Martin will take a listen for you. James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

Yea proberly will do that as I’m only in Stevenage but when I think about it the noise is been there months as long as I can remover maybe even from when I got it in November I have a video from may when it was doing it then and I have done 2500+miles since and no worse so if it was bottom big ends or anything catastrophic I’m sure they wouldn’t have lasted that long Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

I would. They are only 20 mins away and better safe than sorry perhaps. They are always very busy and it is a relatively small work shop but great guys and know LR’s inside out. James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

Personally I’d say left hand bank noise is the injector and the oil filler noise is a stuck tappet. I’ve just gone outside and checked mine and I’ve got no noise from the oil filler but I do have a similar noise on the left bank roughly near the middle injector Metal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)
LR door puddle projectors (10 mins)
Tinted Bonnet wind deflector (10 mins)
All Intercooler pipes and Tbolts (2hrs)
3 injectors replaced so far (30mins)
Sunroof drain pipes both sides 2.5 hrs)
Rear discs, shoes, pads, callipers, flexi hoses, rigid brake line, n/s upper hub carrier bush and rear n/s upper arm (13hrs over 2 days)

Gareth wrote:That will be a 6 speed gearbox, same as D3. 3.0 engine, no oil pump issues, but can still snap a crank!
Better interior, some say not as good as D3 because it’s too posh.
Updated sat nav.
Maybe better brakes and suspension.
Same maintenance issues.
Well I have d4 steering wheel and satnav and v8 breaks Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

You're worrying again!
The rear belt on a D3 is not timed, so it has no bearing on any suspected condition you think is presently affecting your engine. Its no harm to replace it, but it will not help your perceptions real or imagined Honestly James, just drive the car, and if there's a catastrophic failure pending you will know it very quickly. Keep the D3 faith, it really is a dream machine!!.... Despite the nighttmares

When I started using the premium diesels my D3, that has no issues (other than a failing torque convertor at the moment!) it became a lot quieter.
It took about 4 complete fill ups and the noise reduction was really noticeable. I did this on advice from a trusted HGV mechanic/technician.
I did give it a bit a thrash as he suggested, no speeding just manual selection and sort of redline a few times!
I used this fuel for three months at great cost! However because of the high cost am now back on the supermarket stuff and guess what? Engine just purr's still!!
I am at a lost to why but it did make a huge difference and continues.
Try the fuel see what happens, got to be the cheapest option?

Did you get this resolved ? Metal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)
LR door puddle projectors (10 mins)
Tinted Bonnet wind deflector (10 mins)
All Intercooler pipes and Tbolts (2hrs)
3 injectors replaced so far (30mins)
Sunroof drain pipes both sides 2.5 hrs)

He’s probably not got back yet
Reading this topic for the first time, one thing that is referred to is injector noise, the OP has mentioned several time that he removed the electric plug while the engine was running, this is one thing that should never be done on a tdv6 as it is possible the piston has hit the injector and damaged it, this information comes from previous posts by the professionals. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
