Don't think I would use a 0w oil and you say it damaged the engine bearings after just 50,000 km approx 30,000 miles

Blimey, am I understanding this correctly ? rebuilding an engine after only 30,000 miles ? This just shouldn’t be happening surely D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

On what basis do you say you wouldnt use a 0W oil? If you think its because its "to thin" then you really need to read up on how a multigrade oil works

i was the one who rebuild his engine twice in 50.000km.
I had a blown head gasket caused by counterfeit head bolts, and also had a cracked piston, so i took the whole engine apart again.
My King Shells had some pretty good wear, i try to find pics later.
Personally i dont belive in the oil as a factor, since it was in spec für the engine (Acea A3 / B4) and i use it for years even in high torture enviroments.

Hi All,
Should I consider changing over to 5w40 on my D3 2.7 as she's just rolled 186'000 miles.
Especially as i do 2 x 200 mile trips every weekend.
Matt,2006 D3 aka Lipstick (bad purchase) my daily.
2012 D4 aka Fiji (wife named it) only drive to the garage/mot station.
2003 L200 aka Miss Piggy, faded blotchy red pink, currently sat in naughty corner in disgrace due to a knocking bottom end (It was the cheapest 4x4 when i bought it)

@ Mambo
"JUST" a thicker oil will not "save" or extend the life of your engine IMHO
every +/- 80K a fresh oilpump will do properly in these engine's though
again Just MHO
Best regards
Harold

For over 8 years and from 97,752 miles to 203,938 miles I ran my D3 on Castrol Magnatec 5w30.
Even though it’s been on SORN for 20 months now, I still start it up regularly and it still sounds smooth and happy.
When it goes back on the road, it will still get 5w30 Castrol and nothing else.
I really like their channel but the oil advice is something I’m going to ignore from my own extensive experience.

Through all thier videos on oil they never mention the Ford spec, which is as important as the viscosity. I'll keep with magnatec 5w30 A5, changed last week and inspected the old oil filter as seems to be the fashion and there was nothing in there at all, completely spotless.

In my opinion the ford 913-B spec alone is rubbish- fuel economy is the main target for this spec.

913-D is a better ford spec and comparable to A3-B4

Another interesting video
At first, i am NOT saying they are not knowledgeable/specialists…! As i really do not know that And i have NO opinion about them (at this moment) !
BUT tbh anyone can make a video (series) on youtube and claiming they are right these days….
If specialists with a business in rebuilding engines or do LR maintenance by trade, at least their “name is on the line” but if not…. Where do we relying on? Followers? Views?
In my trade (motorcycles repair, rebuilding, parts) we see a lot of youtube and forum “ truth” coming in, what can be classified as complete nonsense… people are repeating “truth/knowledge” as parrots on posts made by a “postman” or “mason” or office clerk” (who CAN or NOT be a specialist on a certain subject regarding engine’s)..
I just want to say, we can not always believe and implement everything (by standard) what is published on youtube etc..
The first reply here, from a known professional, says it all… “it is not the wrong oil”
On the other hand if that was the only “wrong” fact , no real problem here..
Good point, well made!

There was a bloke on here can't remember his name but he had like 700,000km on his D3 4 years ago and I don't remember seeing him change his engine oil to 5w40. I wonder how his engine didn't blow up? Aidan
=============
Character? Changed his engine every 6 months instead of the oil .
