Thks as I knew the more knowledgeable members here would know , must confess have been happy with the millers oil I’ve been using , still change all the oils every year regardless of the very low mileage

Ps, hope ur good mate and business is also doing well Thumbs Up

PSA advise a 5w40, sure it was also mentioned in the video as the oil they used

But, JLR say a 5w30...

Ive seen the same on Vw and Mitsubishi vehicles with VW engines.
Vw recommend 5w30 and Mitsubishi 5w40 the Mistubishi engines dont suffer with the same failures as the Vw ones.

So, with 245000 miles would 5w40 be a help. Burns a bit of oil after ticking over for a while, but not on start up or driving (that i can see).

I was quite happy with the knowledge of 5W-30 C1 oil and then after looking at the LR time video I had my doubts, so now I have a oil change coming ups next month and probably going to use Castrol 5W-40 C3. I don't see any offers for a Acea C4 type oil and the sulphate ash is only 0.3% less than the C3 oil. My engine build type is a 276 DT, in my 2006 L319 ....

Another interesting video

At first, i am NOT saying they are not knowledgeable/specialists…! As i really do not know that And i have NO opinion about them (at this moment) !

BUT tbh anyone can make a video (series) on youtube and claiming they are right these days….

If specialists with a business in rebuilding engines or do LR maintenance by trade, at least their “name is on the line” but if not…. Where do we relying on? Followers? Views?

In my trade (motorcycles repair, rebuilding, parts) we see a lot of youtube and forum “ truth” coming in, what can be classified as complete nonsense… people are repeating “truth/knowledge” as parrots on posts made by a “postman” or “mason” or office clerk” (who CAN or NOT be a specialist on a certain subject regarding engine’s)..

I just want to say, we can not always believe and implement everything (by standard) what is published on youtube etc..

The first reply here, from a known professional, says it all… “it is not the wrong oil”

On the other hand if that was the only “wrong” fact , no real problem here..
 Best regards
Harold

Oil is one of those subjects that can just start an arguement. Few people know the long term implications.
Add to the fact these are a fussy + problomatic engine and its a perfect storm

You could try 5W40 at your next change and see what happens.

Oil burn at tick over would make me question the turbo ? (on a non landrover)

Yes turbo is original. How long can they last, how much do I spend with engine at that mileage. Its up to me I guess
Cheers for replying

I think you have done very well out of that turbo then Rolling with laughter

have you blanked the EGR's and removed the front butterfly?
if it were me I would ensure the front butterfly was in place. The ECU then has a capability to stall the engine should it detect an over run condition and have a knowledge/program to inact it sucessfully.

Stick some 5w40 in it, and keep driving it

If you have a Ford F150 with the 3.0 TDV6 in the US they recommend 5W40 oil for severe duty and if you use diesel with bio diesel content. Not that this is the equivalent of a engineering review of using it on earlier 2.7 TDV6....

Mobil 5W-40 Super 3000 X1 is my way to go. Cant say anything bad.

I Used Mobil 1 FS 0W40 before, and while disasembling my 50.000km Engine for a total overhaul i also inspektet my King Rod bearings, they looked horrific as usual.
