| Engine Oil Overfill Warning What would You Do? |

After having the D4 serviced recently, (2 year service at 13k miles) and checking the engine oil level a couple of weeks later after 500 miles, found that the ‘Overfilled’ warning was showing.
I contacted the dealer who was going to replace a door lock that week and they said they would check it out.
They left the car for ten minutes after running, did the check and the warning did not show so they said not a problem as that was the LR recommended method.
I get the same result using that method but if the car is left for a few hours or overnight the warning shows.
Looking on the service sheet it states that the amount of oil used was 6 litres but the handbook shows capacity including filter to be 5.7 litres
After the previous service the level was always only about three quarters full so never saw this warning before.
Just wondering if I should drain a little off, might only be marginal but what would you guys do

Dealers sell oil by the litre ... That's why it's booked at 6 and not 5.7
If there's deffo too much in there then it needs draining ... Sump plug at the bottom of the engine will allow you to do this G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

still.......I thought the system was the oil was sucked out viv the fill pipe ?
Personally I wouldnt bother with the warning light....
take the vehicle back & get the dealer who did the service to sort the problem
the vehicle is under warranty.....they sort the issues including warning lights that come on for all reasons
in this case they have caused this.
I have a Disco 3 with the high technology dipstick that never fails (providing its used periodically)
My XK has the same system as the D4...so as yet havent had to top any oil up but will be wary about any overfill
I still maintain the dipstick system is the best.......
the sensor & warning light will end in tears for those that have it BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.

i remeber when i went to the D4 launch ride and drive with LR they did a tech spec walkthrough and the guy presenting stressed that you should never overfill the D4 and if it is to get the dealer to rectify straight away TLO has left the building.......

Over full will damage the engine - that's why it has an over full warning. Disco 5 HSE Lux

Admit that a slight slope will mean overfill warning on or off so must be borderline.
Will drain some off myself.
Seems like a sump guard covering drain plug, assume this comes off to get to it, about 10 bolts?
There is a tube with a plastic bayonet cap to LH side front of engine with about a 5mm dia hole in it, is this the syphon point that is talked about? 2015 D4 HSE in Corris Grey

Once had a ML270, dread the thought, everytime I went down hill off roading the low oil light came on and going up hill the over full warning came on 
Go back to the dealer it's a lot easier than getting 6 ltrs of oil up your sleeve. The more I hear about these D4s the more I will stick with a D3  Am I right in understanding they do not have a dip stick on the engine? It can when others can't,

You are correct no dipstick on the Discovery 4.
I am not sure whether there is a sump plug & hear dealers extract the oil from the top of of the engine with a pump.
I trust there is a sump plug as you can remove more oil that way than with a suction pump.

Sorted it now.
No need to take sump plug out, it's behind the sump guard anyhow.
The tube on the LH side of the engine goes straight into the sump, just put small hand pump and tube over the end of the tube and drew some off. 2015 D4 HSE in Corris Grey
