Engine Seized
Joined the big yellow taxi club last night
2008 D3 auto
No warning no noises, no lights or bongs just sudden loss of power
Managed to coast up slip road and engine locked solid, so I assume it’s spun a shell.
Supposed to be going round Devon for a week tomorrow morning, looks like I might have to rethink that one
Can anybody recommend an Indie near Kettering that would be willing to fit a second-hand lump, just haven’t got the space or time to do it myself
Out of interest can you still get a crated LR unit

You could see if Oval Autos will quote you... think they stopped doing D3s as it's generally uneconomic to do an engine replacement on these vehicles, but they may be willing if you give Joe a call. Other side of Birmingham to you but it's probably where I'd be wanting to take mine in that scenario, they've had good feedback on here.
Good luck!

Looking at those prices it's not worth doing.
QP online want £6k plus Vat fitted plus Turbo etc as needed but booked solid until end of January.
Leaving the option of a secondhand unit but understandably Garages don't want to fit one due to warranty cover, looking more like all the bits will be taken off and the motor scrapped.
It all depends on budget & requirements. I would go for a late D4 - but mine's not for sale! That is of course until my Executors offer it for sale !

Well decided to stick with the D3, found an S type with 80k on clock reasonable history and a rotten body for £900, had motor swapped over new oil pump belts etc, while it was out Recon TC, refurbed turbo.
Got it back at the weekend oh how I’ve missed it,
Safe to say the old lump was well and truly goosed

That's good. Once you have a good one, it's worth keeping it going. There are still not real options that can replace the D3/4. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)
Sold Volvo XC90 R-Design (known as Basil)
Sold - D4 HSE (Known as Gerty)
No longer the Old Buses original owner
231,000 miles and counting
05 S manual owned from March 2005
D4 Face lifted
Still original injectors and turbo
V8 Front brakes
BAS Remap, Allisport Intercooler and deCat
EGRs blanked
T-Max split charge
Hanibal Expeedition rack
Prospeed ladder
Duratrac tyres
IID BT
BAS FBH control

Great to hear, congrats on getting it up and running again, before Christmas too
Always nice to hear someone willing to put the effort and cash in to save a car they like.
If you're willing to say, I'd be interested what kind of ballpark figure you think this has set you back. For future reference if the worst were to happen with my D3.
