Engine stalls at tick-over
Hi all,
Had an odd occurrence with my D3 yesterday, I started the engine in the normal way, Ie. ignition on - wait for "system check" then preheater - fire up, all OK except it seemed to run a bit lumpy initially, I opened the window to see if I could hear anything unusual and the engine just stopped with the battery light coming on, also the preheater light flashed on very briefly then the oil light
Started the engine again and it seemed fine except that on "blipping" the throttle the revs would rise to 1500 or so as expected then when dropping back to tickover it would seem to drop to below normal speed and again show the kind of lumpy running momentarily while it recovers, after a couple of times it would stall altogether again.
It's done the same again this morning and yet in normal driving it's as smooth and responsive as ever
I'm beginning to wonder if this could be the signs of a failing battery, Has anyone else experienced this effect?
A quick check on the diag screen showed it at about 11.5volts just after it stalled the first time this morning but up to 13.5 - 14v when running.
(Out of curiosity I connected my DMM directly to the battery and it records about ½ a volt higher than shown on the diag screen.)Clive

When my battery was on the way out was getting HDC failure message, starting and running was fine, even in -15c.
