Engine System Fault

Help driving home from work this evening and disco 3 decided to nearly die on me . Message on dash came up with Engine System Fault and happend to go on for about 5 seconds and then was ok again afetrward. Only drive three miles to work so wondering if this is the problem with the engine not getting warm enough before parking up and switching off.
Has anyone had a similar problem and is there a known fix.
Thanks

Oh yes... Rolling Eyes

When you say "nearly died" - was there power loss ?

The message can come up for a whole host of reasons though. Without any other messages, lights, symptoms etc it is nigh impossible to point you to any one item. Could be "one of those things" to MAF/MAP sensors to first sign of EGR trouble to delaminating hoses and to a broken turbo... to name a few.

You need to get the fault code read and take it from there.
The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

I cant believe that a blown light bulb can have such an effect on the engine. There was power loss and then it picked up again and its not the first time the car has done this. My disco 3 is approaching 32000k on milage so its not high milage as such and its naver been hammered only pampered.

I hope so, but the explanation is similar to mine, you get the MESSAGE on the dash, and the D3 goes sluggish and no oomph, turn it off and then restart and it clears.

Mine did this for about 2 weeks before after a restart it would'nt clear. TBH its not the turbo usually, its the electronic bits, the variable Vanes than need to open up under load, if they dont and are clogged with soot then this message appears.

Solution is a NEW turbo, and a software update that exercises the Vanes on full open to fully closed on pre-heat.

Before you panic...and everyone else posts it is definitely the turbo...

Did the car lose power as well...? The OP reads, to me, that the message came up but nothing else happened. So although I mentioned turbo as one of many potential causes (mainly to illustrate a point), it is far too early to diagnose that from a few lines in one thread... Rolling Eyes

And yes, a blown brake light bulb or a faulty brake switch can cause this problem as well...

And edited to say: take a look at this thread. http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic45214.html
