I had a lot of these last year, when the temperature outside was above 20'C and the car was hot from a good run and it was booted - i.e. passing someone or coming off an island.
I changed the intercooler for a clean one - and it's not done it since - however, it also went colder
Anyway, came back from a weekend in the TinTent and it as done it again - about 3 or 4 times.
Working the car reasonably hard, but nowhere near full throttle. Up a hill or overtaking - sorry if anyone was behind me when it did it passing a trunk on the M5
The intercooler is not clean - but then I would say it wasn't completely blocked either - but in any case, there are plenty of people running around with completely blocked IC's without this issue.
Any one got any idea's before it goes back to the dealers, to be told that they can't find a problem Mark.

Yeah I know I need the codes read - the EGR are not showing any faults -they were checked last week = though they could have gone since - as could the turbo I guess.
Driving without the van and all was ok - quite spritley.Mark.

Ah don't you just love ESF faults, especially when you are overtaking or passing stuff on the Mway and it dies. I was in lane 2 with the truck i'd just overtaken behind me and the truck it's overtaking beside me and the car dying. It gets personal when the car does its best to kill you. Weirdly if you have CC on it drops to that speed, thank .
I just want to get to the bottom of why it's doing this, without adding to the list of bits already changed.

In order of changing:
Long intercooler hose
MAF sensor
Fuel filter
Air filter
Intercooler
Turbo.
EGRs blanked early last year just after new valves fitted, butterfly removed.
Unfortunately not good with codes but remember high air temp reading (fixed with MAF Sensor), turbo over boost error (pointing to turbo), unfortunately no idea of what's on there now as no code reader.

Have you checked that you've not lost your coolant?
I had this issues a year ago when the oil cooler was leaking.
The coolant was leaking around there and evaporating.
Result was that lack of coolant when the engine was asked to perform gave a few restricted power situations.🏴
But it's above the cold fill level by about 3/4" or so - though is hard to tell in the dark - the top tank looks to be full.
I actually did check the engine temperature - and hadn't budged above its normal level on the gauge - which is just a needle width below the 1/2 way line.Mark.

Will check tomorrow but usually eyeball the coolant level when bonnet is up, all OK I think.
Based on everything you have had done, try EGR coolant/thermostat - my EGR's were changed but continued getting engine going into low-power mode at inopportune moments (ie when SWMBO was driving and overtaking a lorry on the motorway...)
(still get ESF message every now and again but no power loss - hoping intercooler change will resolve that...)The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeksnearly 4 weeksover 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

I knew that, was replying to Ron!!
BTW last shutdown was just a bong and "SPECIAL PROGS NOT AVAILABLE" then limp home mode, no EF message. Happened after a roundabout before a long hill when seeing how SE was on full throttle for half mile or so.
Actually John, I don't remember anything about Special Programs - which I used to get - just ESF.
What I did notice was the revs increased - like it dropped a gear - but that may or may not have been significant and loss of power.
Where do I find the EGR coolant Thermostat? Or do I need to ask the question elsewhere Mark.

Only EU4 EGR coolers were fitted with thermostats. They are fitted right at the top (I think inside) of the cooler where the coolant pipe joins itMy D3 Build Thread
